Main Street Fisheries in Allerdale

Stopped here on a weekend trip to Cockermouth. Best fish and chips I’ve had for a while! Lovely salty and crispy batter, the fish was tender and chips were nicely cooked. Thank you!

We were there this Easter Bank Holiday and had to wait ages to be served (30 min at least) which took us to nearly closing time, and then another 20 min for the food. When we got home absolutely hungry we were so disappointed by what was meant to be cod in batter, loads of battery and very little cod. The only thing I can say was the chips were ok, and the mushy peas had a funny taste to them. What an absolute disappointment. Never again.

Very disappointing food today - most of the "chips" were just rock hard over-cooked shards, and the whole ones were cold, gnarled and hard, obviously reheated even tho it was a Monday lunchtime. Had good food from here before but absolutely shocking today.Updated on Feb 2 2022: we tried again today, giving you the benefit of the doubt that maybe last time was an "off day" (it happens) but again extremely disappointed. Again many of the chips were inedible - hard and gnarly, obviously re-heated, and cold too. You seem to have a problem with this which needs sorting out, because frankly our food was awful. We won't try you again a third time.

It's a pity, because we have been here many times over the years and it's been great. However, lately I have felt underwhelmed. I came last month and the chips were hard and cold, but today they were no better. They were so awful they were not fit for pigeons and I binned them.

Even tho it was busy, the food was very good. Only 2 people in the shop so we all waited outside. So you felt covid safe...

Yet again fabulous fish and chips, crispy chips, succulent fish and the crispiest batter. Every week without fail. Delicious. Friendly service and plentiful portions. The best in Cockermouth.

Came in for supper for the family. Service was a bit erratic with a long wait. The food was nice. The chips are the modern type sort of dry and crispy.Was excited to see they had scraps which we ordered. Unfortunately we had none when we got home to eat our food.

Nice ships, buy from here monthly and have been for years. Used to be a bit more salty but can add the salt when get home or leave as is. Love the chips.

Visited lunch time Thursday 19th August 21. Nice bright, clean shop, charming lady serving but chips were really tough, probably overcooked? Judging by the reviews from locals maybe it was a one off.
