Restaurant at Hazel Bank Country House in Allerdale

Stunning views. Very friendly house cat - he comes to visit the lawn in time for pre-dinner drinks. The rooms are lovely too, but the evening meals are stunning! Extremely good value dinner if you're a hotel guest; different every night and not once were we disappointed in the three nights we stayed. We're fussy, London food snobs and we were impressed.

We enjoyed our stay very much!Always helpful, thoughtful experienced owners and staff :)Very comfy bed and dead quiet room, due in part to the solid stone walls.The food was delightful and the grounds immaculate.There is safe parking as the hotel is well away from the road.There’s a bus stop at the end of the drive, with 30min service, so even without a car, it would be great.So many walks are possible from the grounds though, you might never need to venture further.5 Stars

Fabulous place! You are a house guest. The food is exquisite and the vegetarian food is not a lessor option, it is equally good. Hope the 'Jaffa cake' is for dessert when you stay as it is divine.Your wet soggy walking clothes are whisked away and returned to you dry which is a real bonus in the lake District.I can't fault the place.

This wonderful, well-maintained country guest house has been our destination on three visits to the English Lake District since 1995. It never fails to please. New owners, Gary and Donna MacRae have continued to raise expectations with enhancements in rooms and menus. The location is ideal for hiking Borrowdale trails. Without a car, we had easy access by foot or local bus to paths on lakes and fells during our four night stay. A set menu nightly featured local products. Breakfasts were cooked to order and filling enough to last the day. The Great Gables room offered views across the valley and a spacious, modern bathroom. And Charley, the orange cat, was charmingly cordial when we sat outside on the veranda overlooking Hazel Bank’s generous gardens—much appreciated as we were missing our cat at home.

What an incredible stay at Hazel Bank Country House. The hospitality from Gary and Donna (the owners) was just amazing, my room was flawless with incredible views of the Lakeland fells and the location was superb. The food was 5 star, quite possibly some of the best food I have ever eaten thanks to the new chef Darren. The presentation and taste was amazing. Thank you so much for a wonderful time in the Lake District and for making my trip a memorable one. Hazel Bank is without a doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I would 100% recommend.

Had a wonderful stay at this incredible hotel. Truly deserves the 5 star rating. Absolutely everything was exceptional. The quality of furnishings/fittings, even the cutlery. The attention to detail is superb along with the food and the service. We will be going back and would whole heartedly recommend Hazel Bank.

Another amazing break at Hazelbank. This is such a special place to run away for a long weekend of luxury, amazing food and friendly people. Gary and Donna are so lovely and make us feel so welcome every time we stay. David works magic with fresh locally sourced food that has literally ruined every other restaurant for us! A luxurious hotel run by Gary and Donna who make you feel so at home and spoil you with amazing cuisine. That combined with the splendid scenery of the Borrowdale scenery made for an enjoyable short break in the Lakes.

We have stayed in hotels of all shapes, sizes and prices, all over the world and none of them have bettered Hazel Bank House. The location, rooms and food are of the very highest standard. Gary and Donna are generous, charming and lovely hosts. Stay. You might be surprised at how well service and food can be done at realistic prices.

Just returned from our trip to hazel Bank and I can only say it was simply outstanding. We stayed in the Helvellyn room, the bed / pillows are comfortable and the en suite and room nice and clean. Donna and Gary the owners were warm and welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed to make sure our stay was very enjoyable. The highlights included the superb cuisine with an excellent four course set meal not to leave out Donna s home made sticky toffee pudding "simply superb". The wine list had a large selection to chose from.The hotel is set in its own grounds and the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains from the long window in the sitting room and the plenty of walks to do all came together to make this a short holiday we wont forget. The only small niggle was no mobile phone signal, but hey who really need that when your on holiday. We will certainly return to Hazel Bank and have no hesitation in giving this five stars.
