We have just come back from a lovely weekend at the Braithwaite camping and caravan park and we visited this place for a drink in January with our puppy. On Saturday we thought we would go and have tea here and walked there from the camp site. It was very busy but we went in with our puppy again, but was told that dogs are not allowed in the pub when serving food, but we could sit outside!! It was freezing cold on Saturday evenings so there was not way we were going to sit outside. I find it incredibly bizarre that it is a “dog friendly” pub, but only for a drink, therefore you cannot eat indoors if you have a dog!!

Lovely pub with friendly staff. Had the belly pork which was so nice. Good range of local ales. Cider on draught and local gins.

Fantastic pub, great food, great staff and decor. Sadly it seems the brewery is 'reclaiming' it - lets hope my fears are not fulfilled.

Traditional friendly pub with great food. Always busy, so best to book especially at the weekend. Huge portions, so go for the smaller plate options especially if you want a dessert! Really tasty vegetarian curry and delicious fish and chips. Puddings are huge! There are rooms to stay here, recently upgraded and decorated. Staff are attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend

Great service. Burger was indeed steak but very overcooked so looked more like a four ounce frozen one. I prefer being asked how I want a 'real ' burger cooked. Cheap looking bun. Lovely sticky toffee pudding.

A lovely little pub located in such a lovely area, with easy access to sites nearby. We went for lunch and it was a good quality Hartley meal which was nice to see for a change! And we went again on the evening, and I the also have a restaurant out the back which served a different selection for the evening we a finer touch to food. Lovely place. Only negative, I’d say one or two of the staff didn’t seem that happy! But others were fine. Most likely temp weekend staff as it was busy.

Spent the night in the Royal Oak. A very comfortable place, the room was well laid out and spacious. We were in the upper part of the building which gave fantastic views of the surrounding hills. The bed was easy to sleep in and all facilities were great. Breakfast in the morning was as big or as small as you liked it. Great service from all the staff and compliments to the chef. Thanks again for a comfortable stay.

Conveniently placed, nice layout. Parking is for the hotel only, so you'd need to find parking on the side streets. Food is ok, some elements are tasty, some are mediocre. See photo of our 3 meals. Beer was very good. Had good time there.

A lovely local pub, but clearly exceedingly busy so make sure you book well in advance if possible! We were seated straight away and the service started off well, bur gradually declined as the evening wore on. I'm aware of how busy they were and the extra cleaning measures in placed must add more time on to the staff's schedule, but we were sitting on a table in prime view & several staff walked past us! Apart from that, the under cover outside area had a relaxed atmosphere, particularly in the sunshine and the food was top-notch. Would recommend a visit here.

The food was delicious! Highly recommend the Steak & Ale Pie, served with perfectly cooked veg and proper homemade chips. We sat in the courtyard area which was lovely and the staff were friendly and professional. Meal was great value, although pint of coke a bit pricey! Overall though a great place to eat out and would thoroughly recommend.
