Shill's of Cockermouth in Allerdale

Shills food is consistently good but the portions can be small. Drinks are expensive and I think we caught them on a bad day because even though it was lunchtime the service was non existent after the initial order.

Great little restaurant and deli in Cockermouth. Love the decor. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Could have spent a fortune!

Had a lovely lunch here the other day ( Wednesday). Plenty of room in the restaurant. Efficient and really friendly service. Lovely starter (mixed platter) which was plentiful and very tasty. Both mains were great tasting and really filling. The chicken and leek pie was terrific as was the fish and chips. An excellent meal. Absolutely brilliant lunch - thoroughly recommend Shills for an enjoyable meal

family of four with a coeliac (gluten-free) had a lovely meal at lunchtime staff was friendly and very helpful and the wife and kids loved their meal and desserts I didn't enjoy my main (seafood platter) but that was my own daft fault for not reading description on menu properly as I didn't realise it came with that much smoked salmon the bread it came with was sublime however.The wife and missus had the meat and cheese platter and it looked delicious. Would definitely go back but would make sure I had my reading glasses.

This is not my first visit to Shills I have always both eating in the restaurant where they serve a good selection of food and shopping in the shop.Best full English breakfast in Cumbria, made with local produce. Coffee good and strong. Staff friendly and helpful.Shop stocks great products.Highly recommended well worth a visit

Quiches/ Chicken and Leek pies and massive Sausage rolls ordered for family buffet couldn't have been better. Excellent food and staff couldn't have been more helpful. Great range of fine wines too.

Booked a table for Saturday night when the food festival was on good job we did!!! Every table was full!!! Food was amazing!!! Couldn't fault.a single part of it. Staff couldn't do anything more!!! Dessert was massive and exceptional!!!! Definitely will be returning before the end of our hols!!!

Lunch today at Shills was excellent, we all loved our meals & the service was good. bought some lovely cheeses to take away. It's the best place to eat in Cockermouth and...consistent...hard for a restaurant to achieve. Well done

Review from a happy coeliac :-)Cosy & charming upper floor bistro with fine food and an excellent gluten-free range of bites, mains and desserts.The Venue - the upstairs bistro area sits above a fine food emporium. One 'feature' wall is a huge blackboard decorated with evidence of foodie flair and passion. Comfy and cosy.The Menu - Tasting platters offer a superb option for sharing or simply enjoying tantalizing variety. Main dishes include Gluten Free Fish & Chips with the first coated in a light tempura batter. Plenty of options for veggies and some compelling gluten free desserts!The Food - Everything sampled was good to great. Juicy, garlicky Gamba's, Cheese selection with Gluten Free Crackers and a varied vegetarian platter including a ludicrously lovely batter coated melted Camembert. So good, I simply couldn't leave any room for dessert! :-OThe Service - I was superbly comfortable to eat here as a coeliac thanks to being greeted and treated in a friendly & considerate way both before and during my visit. Fantastic fish platter (£14) generous portions of fish, washed down with viognier/grenache (£26? bottle). Espresso coffee (£2.30) could have been better otherwise really good. Full and great atmosphere. Good service. Friends tapas looked excellent.
