Sun Inn in Allerdale

Just enjoyed great fish and chips (our Friday night tradition). Fish is cooked in beer batter - light and crispy, not at all oily (which is sometimes the case these days). Served with chunky chips and garden peas. Has to be the best we've had for a long time. Add to this friendly staff and a good selection of beers and you come away feeling that you've had a good night out. Thank you The Sun Inn.

I recommend making a reservation as this place was busy. We weren't shown to our table (just pointed in the general direction of it) and it took the waitress a long time to take our order, but it was worth the wait.I had a 'flying scotsman'. This was off the specials board menu and it was delicious. The haggis on top of the bacon on top of the tasty chicken breast was superb.Two members of my family had the Sunday roast dinner with the complimentary cauliflower cheese. The portion size was so generous that they couldn't finish their meals. Definitely no room for pudding but the description on the menu was tempting.It's off the beaten track, but well worth finding. Also worth a walk along the river behind the sun inn to admire the beautiful white ducks or, if you have little ones, let them play on the park. Probably nice for a paddle in the warmer months.

Was staying nearby at a local hotel; disappointed by the poor choice of beer there, wandered the mile or so here. Amazing. Friendly staff, excellent ales, wide and varied menu. And..Monday night is £2 off a pint of ale night. Well worth it....

Had a lovely meal at the sun inn. Really fresh well cooked food. Great atmosphere. Luckily we managed to get a table so would definitely recommend booking a table during school holidays.

The welcome was friendly. The food was nice especially the chicken & haggis dish. The chocolate orange bread & butter pudding was good. We also ordered brownie & ice cream

Stayed nearby so very handy for Sunday Birthday lunch.We'll worth a visit. Big car park across the lane. Outdoor seating with great view. Inside is a classic pub. Spacious and full of character. Sunday lunch was great and considering the struggles hospitality has suffered, very reasonable for 5 people.Attentive service. Can't fault them. Dogs allowed and tourist, walkers and family friendly.Recommended.

What a lovely little find. A lovely Country Pub. Excellent 👌 Staff and Brilliant Food. Had a excellent 👌 Thai Cod and Prawn 🍤 Fishcakes Served with Salad 🥗 and Chips. Other half had a Burger 🍔 with Salad and Chips. And to top it off. It was Dog Friendly Too....

It has to be 35-40 years since I visited The Sun Inn at Bassenthwaite and I have to say I wasn't disappointed.A lovely pub in equally lovely surroundings.A comprehensive menu is available and I found the steak pie to be very nice indeed.Nice selection of ales too, the Cumberland ale complimenting the pie very well.A great stop off point for travellers and walkers alike.Definitely recommend it.

Dropped in for Sunday lunch while visiting the area. The staff where very helpful and friendly as my wife is gluton free. Food was excellent and some nice cask ales on tap. I would certainly recommend this pub to anyone and I will be visiting it again when we are up in the area again.

The staff were amazing, the venue was clean and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious! Definitely a worthwhile stop for anybody after a great bite to eat in a friendly and inviting atmosphere. The local ales are delicious, and the menu caters for everyone from carnivore through to vegan, great spread!
