The Garden Bistro in Allerdale

Whilst on holiday from Oxford - a group of us stopped for a short while in Workington to eat. We took a chance on The Garden restaurant where immediately we were met by a friendly and welcoming staff member called “Mel” , she engaged enough to make us feel comfortable. The menu was varied enough for choice and the food delivered was hot, tasty and filling. This restaurant certainly did not disappoint- overall its value for money but not disappointing in taste and good in delivery. Keep being super lovely Mel..

Had a wonderful meal at the garden last night, the food was excellent just like a gourmet restaurant (especially the chicken goujons) and the cocktails in particular were to die for! Great staff, couldn’t do more for you! Would definitely recommend :)

Really nice people. even though there wasn't a full English (yet) on menu they made us what we wanted, it was nice and tasty i will definitely be going back to try evening meals. Take that extra 20 steps from near by pie shop and go eat some real food or even just for a coffee and sport local people. Thanks

Slow service, expensive food. I ordered veg lasagna, to be told it would be veg pasta instead. I said that’s fine, to then be told they didn’t have that either, so I ordered two sides which turned out to be tiny and I left hungry - my garlic bread was actually tiny, no where near 9inch. Not a single member of staff was wearing a face mask. Our drinks took an excruciatingly long time to arrive, and were only fine at best. The only positive was the young man with glasses who served us was lovely, but several other members of staff were standing round chatting and giving customers odd looks. There was no allergen menu (and no allergens or V ticks on normal menu), and the lady informed me it would be fine because we would be asked our allergies when we ordered which didn’t happen. Side order of chips was tiny too.

Have visited on a number of occasions since opening as we had previously in the other venue. Although food has been good, lack of customer service, experience, and management is increasingly letting them down, to the point we are unlikely to return until this improves.I could spend time detailing many aspects of how this could be achieved, as a business basic themes permeate and should be obvious to them.I notice on other reviews similar acknowledgements of this have been stated, but as yet still not acted upon, teething problems should now have been resolved.

The food was cold, half our order was wrong. The staff told us it wasn't wrong but we could clearly see & taste that it was, waited 40 minutes for a replacement that never came. When we went to pay and leave, they tried charging us for food we didn't receive. The decor is awesome but everything else was bad, don't think we'll be going back. The venue lacks management and is very disorganized

Awful, won't be back. Shame because real effort has been put into the decor, but the service is just atrocious. Go here if you want to be offended and the young girl with glasses has a real attitude problem, never have I once overheard being called a name in an establishment, stay away and spend your money on better local venues.

Excellent, efficient and friendly service. Really nice food and a great menu. Lovely, comfortable, clean space and great decor. At last, a great place to have lunch in Workington. Would highly recommend.

Called in for lunch last week. Lovely food and staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back.
