My wife and I are occasional diners in the Terrace Bar at the Trout Hotel in Cockermouth. Sadly, due to Covid being the cause of staff shortages, the Terrace Bar has not been open much in the last year or so. However it was open on Easter Sunday and we booked a table for the evening. We were looking forward to our first meal in the Terrace Bar for a while and we weren't disappointed. We both chose the Easter Sunday menu and started with the goats cheese and chive soufflé which was incredibly tasty. Next was a blackcurrant sorbet followed by Roast Beefand Yorkshire pudding for the Mrs and sea bass with Samfire and sauted potato for me. Very tasty and plenty of it....for most people anyway! Fourth course was sweet and the wife chose café creme brulé with ice cream and I had hot cross bun butter pudding with custard. I am sorry to say that there was too much for me, and while I tried my best, I just couldn't finish. Coffee was also included in the price of £32 each and there were other choices on the Easter Sunday menu. If you preferred, there was also the a la cart menu. The service is always good at the Trout we find and it was great to see Martin, Stephen and the team again. In addition to all of this there was a singer performing in the Terrace Bar called Glen Anderson who had a great voice and sang a variety of songs which were suitable for all age groups except for the very young. Now we are looking forward to our next visit. The Derwent restaurant has been and still is open at the Trout Hotel, but we prefer the Terrace. My only reservation is the price of drink. The bar prices are quite expensive. But the food is good value for money and quality. Also the service is good and when we had entertainment on this occasion, it all makes for a very enjoyable evening.

We have been visiting the Trout for over 20 years on a regular basis and always loved staying and the food was always first class but the last couple of times we have been extremely disappointing in choice, quality and value. They need to up their game before we visit again

Afternoon tea was disappointing. Staff were lively but the tea itself was basic. No quiche/sausage rolls or anything savoury other than sandwiches. Cakes not great either. Quite disappointed.

Just simply lovely. Great place for group lunch. Must try, the Sunday Roast. Shame I forgot to take pictures.

It's a lovely place. Feels luxurious. However, found it overpriced for the quality of the meal and the service. Not in a rush to go back.

Lovely rooms and atmosphere. Very good food. Welcoming staff. What was not so good was the water pressure on the top floor which afected the flow and destabilized the temperature. Overall I would recomend to visit.

A birthday meal in the restaurant with a friend. The hotel, food, service & staff were all wonderful. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for several night with three rooms over the Christmas holidays. The rooms are nice and the beds and linens are very nice. The staff was extremely nice and kind despite working on the holidays. We felt the food at their restaurant was average though so I wouldn’t plan on too many meals there

Very friendly and considerate staff, good food, lovely comfortable room. Nothing that made me feel disappointed. Very happy with our stay.

Had our work christmas dinner here and it was great. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the venue was great - well set up and thought through. The food was amazing and quite reasonable really. Organising, and making last minute changes had been really simple. Definitely would recommend the place for anyone looking to host an event in the area
