"Mark and Jackie have been running this award winning pub for over 15 years now. Between them they have over 30 years experience in the food and drinks industry. Which means that you will be assured a fine pint of local Cumbrian Ale and tasty local food, produced to the highest of standards."

Great find. Went for a family meal last night and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food - Cumberland sausage, beef pie and pork belly. Good range of drinks on the bar, nice atmosphere. Staff did well despite it being busy with a large group in. Thanks all!

Good location, nice, cosy place. Staff are kind and helpful, attentive. There is a small car parking behind. Bar with a lot of drink, food is very nice, tasteful and delicious and big amount- we ate for starter filled jalapeno (spicy but not too spicy, tasted well, dressing was nice too and the salad was fresh), after roasted turkey, was with gravy, yorkshire puding, crunchy kale (tasted very well), broccoli and mash. Everything seemed fresh, and fresh cooked. Service was very good, i could ask "children portion", and was enough. My partner had full portion, that was a lot. Worth every penny. I am sure we go back soon. I recommend this place. We went there after walking- so about 5pm, was plenty of table that time, and the food arrived quickly. Sorry no photo before, i was too hungry. 😁

The staff on Sunday were woeful. On his phone for the whole shift, refused to serve me a pizza. Rude to the face, violently threatened me to leave when I politely asked for food. Once served food it was drier then the table which hadn't been waxed. The plate was almost as dirty as swallow barn. The cutlery matched the bluntness of your staff. I was served lightly salted water, vile. In the corner by the bar I saw a rat tatatating. The table was also wobbly despite sticking the blunt spoon under it as I wasn't staying for longer then I had to. I was then abruptly and brutally asked for a tip to which I refused. Then they laughed at my friend of colour simply because he was left unattended in the oven. Will not be visiting this place again.Unkind Regards,Unhappy customer.

We ran the Lorton 10k race and then headed here afterwards. The food and drink were excellent and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it

Had a lovely lunch. Proper roast lunch and pud and finally managed to find a pint of Cumberland ale on tap which was very pleasing. Friendly staff and dog friendly too.

A real shame I have to give only 1 star. Just had New Years day meal. The food was very average at best and very expensive for what it was. We have been here for the last 4 years (not last year for obvious reasons) for our New Years day lunch after a good walk. We always look forward to it as the food and atmosphere was in the past, good pub grub in typical style. This year was the complete opposite. The menu selection was tiny.....5 or 6 choices and two of those were burgers. The giant pig (yes pig) in blanket was a large sausage wraped in bacon (as you would expect) on a bed of mash with a side of VERY sorry veg that was basically mush....all that for over £16!!! Zero atmosphere in the place (no music or anything else). The staff were polite and good friendly Cumbrian crack but the food was simply terrible. I don't mind paying the prices they were charging if the food and experience warrant it but unfortunately they were nowhere near the mark. I hope for the sake if another Cumbrian village pub that this is not the norm or I can not see it being open for much longer. We will certainly not be going back next year. I truly hope the owners read this and try to do something about it before it is too late.....Good luck Wheatsheaf for the future, on this experience you might need it.

We visit this pub every year. It's a spacious restaurant, with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are welcoming and professional, providing a great service. Dogs are allowed both inside and out. The menu is varied and the specials change each evening. The portions are hot, tasty and sizeable - superb value. We had pre-booked because it can get very busy. There's a range of different sized tables, depending on the party size. A welcoming fireplace, is in the centre of the dining area. There's a car park adjacent to the pub and a static caravan site, is at the rear of the pub. A marvellous place to visit.

Lovely food, ate here twice whilst staying in the village. Sunday lunch brilliant, Thursday evening service a bit slow but food brilliant again.

Hard to miss, (was a) mustard coloured pub, along the B5289, with splendid meals and local ales, and a large gin selection. Pleasant, pale green-blue tones accent the decor, plus soft lighting, with wooden tables and chairs spread across two sections, separated by the wood fire crackling away along a wall. The pub almost juts into the street, and a pretty river burbles along the other side of the road. Beer and food is sourced locally with a daily specials board ranging from about £12-19, plus gluten free options. My wife had an unctuous lamb shank on mash, smothered in Cumberland sauce, with a side of veg. I plumped for the 10oz sirloin steak loaded with fried mushrooms and onions, topped with Camembert, and including proper chips and a side salad; a mixture of greens, diced peppers, red onion, and nicely dressed with a balsamic glaze. Above average pub food, which was absolutely delicious, presented well, and went down nicely with their own Yan for the Hill ale.Service was good, and staff were friendly and welcoming; [they let us in early due to pelting rain] and overall, the pub has a cozy feel and little details are done well. Tends to fill up in summer, so you may need to book for meals. Free parking is located behind the pub, as is the beer garden. Look out for the beer festivals. Owners offer a range of nearby accommodations.

Visited here with the whole family and had great experience, all the food was delicious, freshly prepared and presented beautifully. All the staff were wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Good choice of specials and soup of the day available, the interior was super clean and cosy, log fire burning away quietly in the background was bliss, noticed there was a good outdoor terrace and benches if it was a sunny day, would be a perfect post walk stop off. Would highly recommend and surely be returning.
