Cottage in Blackpool
Where is Cottage?

"A Blackpool institution, The Cottage is the town's most iconic fish and chip shop. A host of famous faces have made a bee-line for this famous Blackpool fish and chip shop over the years. Originally built as a farmhouse, the building dates back to 1856 and has been a fish and chip shop since 1920. Rick Stein singled out The Cottage in his Seafood Lover's Guide as having the best fish and chips in Blackpool."

I have been to The Cottage on two occasions and both times my experience has been the same. Poor. It feels like it’s every member of staff’s first day and I was tempted to vault the counter and serve myself. The lady on fish actually seemed to know what she was doing though. Somehow the lady who served me thought it was a good idea to wrap my gravy-laden chips and sausage in paper, which soaked up most of the gravy and I really enjoyed peeling the paper from my sausage. The food is generally pretty decent but nothing. I will not be returning for third visit, fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you. I know I’ve already mentioned it but how can you think it’s a good idea to wrap wet chips in paper. RIDICULOUS. The fact you have a restaurant and also price your food highly for Blackpool I’d expect much better. I also saw staff handle a fish with their bare hands after handing other items, such as the cash register and money. Like ew. Just go to Maccies instead if you’re in the area, at least you know what you’re getting.

Massive portion sizes. Very good fish and chips. The Mrs Quinn Special and the lite bite special were plenty enough for me and the wife and great value for money. The restaurant is pleasant, with framed photos of famous clientele on every wall.

Lovely food, friendly staff and nicely set out inside the restaurant. Quite a few famous people have dined in here too, with some photos on their wall of them.

Excellent. We arrived 10mins before closing time, but wasn't too much trouble. The fish and chips were exceptional, the best by far in Blackpool.

I love fish and chips and since I moved to Blackpool I havnt been able to find one that wows me. Most are very pricey, small portions and expensive delivery fees.I thought I would try The Cottage and I am very glad I did. I got the meal deal large cod, large chips with a side for £8. Now from my experience that’s a very good price so I expected it to be a small portion. I was wrong and glad for it, the cod was massive along with the chips portion and it was well presented and tasted awesome. I got half way through it and had to have a breather. The curry sauce was nice which was the side I got with the meal decent sized pot more then I needed.Me thinking it would be small I also ordered two battered sausages I had to wait awhile to be able to even attempt to eat them but they wer soooo good.Delivery was quick had my food within half an hour and great customer service very polite driver.Defo high rating would recommend to everyone, will defo be ordering from there again.Tru Talk

Today was a blast from the past for me. We used to go when I was a child (we lived 5 minutes away). It was the best chippy for miles around back then. I went back today for the first time in over 40 years to see if it was still as good, and I wasn't disappointed. It's good to know some things never change!

Got a Family of four a Light Bites take out special. Service was a little slow but being busy is usually a good sign so they say. The chips were small portions (as expected) but the fish were surprisingly quite large. So four medium fish & small chips, with four small sides of two Peas & two Curry for £14. Bargain & left very happy at that point. As regards the tasting, well the Chips were good, but the Fish was far from the best I’ve had unfortunately…

I have smelt the entising aroma on a number of occasions from The cottage. Not being a local I have never got the opportunity to try this place. I had read the positive reviews and a few locals said it was a nice place. It claims to be famous and holds a blue herratige plaque. On my visit social distancing rules were in place. The takeaway area is small and and had 3 people waiting to receive their order. It took a few minutes to get served. We ordered chips, peas, gravy and a barm, chips and peas (for myself) and two portions of chips. I paid by card. The place was generally clean and tidy and about 5 people were behind the counter. The window sticker advised a food hygiene rating of 5. The staff were polite but they didn't conduct them selves with any urgency. It took 15 minutes from point of order to receiving the food and I am not sure how long it would take if it was busy. We asked for all the dishes to to be seasoned with salt and vinegar but none of them was. The chips were a good colour and had a slight outer crisp that looked promising however they were undercooked on the I side and had hard, dense potato on the inside in most of the chips. Getting the chips right are a must for a chip shop. The please were mushy of good green colour but with a few firm parts. I would describe as average but lacked a little flavour. My partner had gravy which she said was nice but was dissopointed with the hard chips. The barm was very large and soft and tasted fresh. On the whole despite the building being lovely and the place being clean it was a bit dissopointing. Looking at the good reviews it would probably indicate that the place is in decline or peoples standards and expectations are low.
