Irwells Bistro in Bury

Visited yesterday afternoon with my Mum this was to be a Celebration lunch as I have battled Breast Cancer through Lockdown n recently rang the bell..The woman who served us drinks presented a dirty tea stained teapot n all stained down the spout. The milk was spilled no apology and failed to clean the spillage.Lunch was served on a dirty chipped old plate it was a burnt offering of a cheese tomato and onion omelette and salad. It was burnt flat pancake style and hardly any filling. It was tasteless just like the surroundings of the cafe.Welsh rarebit was another burnt offering two inches thick and presented on another severely chipped plate in fact both plates were chipped on each corner.When the food was left at the service area the piece of paper that the food was written on was placed on top of the food. I personally thought that was an extremely bizarre way of advising the waitress the food was available to be served.The food was served and we were asked by the young waitress do you want cutlery. Again I'm not used to eating food without cutlery and as an ex waitress the waitress should have ensured that the cutlery was presented to ourselves before the food was served.The cutlery was old and tired. The salt pot was cracked and the vinegar lid was missing and in all honesty this needed to be binned. It shouldn't have been available to use.We went to the till and was asked by a mature woman everything OK. My mum explained there was a catalogue of errors and the food was extremely poor standard.What we didn't expect is a mouthful of if you don't like it you should have said.I intervened by stating we had brought our concerns to the young waitress who clearly stated isn't me you should be speaking to it's the Manager and basically I'm not interested. I also stated on no terms speak to my Mum in a detrimental and derogatory manner and I was feeling stressed and explained my situation re the Cancer and we were allowed to portray our opinion and maybe if she couldn't deal with the criticism maybe she was in the wrong job.She then started to bark pay up. My mum proceeded to state I've still got more issues to advise and then the mature woman said get out you can have it free and then actually you can pay because you're a pair of professional complainers and you're rude and get out.My Mum said I'll pay but I have a right to express my opinion and then mature woman said get out your both banned and never ever show your faces here again and I don't want your money.My response was your wastage must be sky high and don't speak to my Mum or myself like that..There was around six or seven people behind us in the queue awaiting to pay and several diners in the room who witnessed this terrible brutal nasty behaviour from the mature woman.I'm surprised she's employed with her attitude and behaviour.In all honesty I wouldn't step foot back in the tired grotty place and if I could put zero stars I would have done and the latte was lukewarm too.Basically just like Mature woman's personality.

My wife and I have been to the bistro on many over the years and always ordered the same dish which was their take on Caesar Salad.The salad consisted of a good portion of chicken and bacon, croutons, grated carrot, lettuce, and Parmesan cheese, onions,and lettuce, and Caesar salad dressing. We visited today ordered the salad and what was put in front of us I could only describe as a child's meal, it consisted of two small strips of chicken, a few tiny pieces of bacon, three anchovies and a large amount of lettuce, a small dusting of Parmesan cheese, and a smaller amount of Caesar salad dressing, an absolute rip off. When this was pointed out to the female on the cash till the reply was that they had received complaints that it was not a correct Caesar salad they had been serving. We understand that in this difficult time prices have to be increased but what we had served was a disgrace.

Came again for Sunday lunch,absolutely amazing food and service. Nothing is to much trouble and it's at a good price 6stars every time. We will be back again and again. Thank you to all owners and staff well done.

I love this space. It has a lovely atmosphere and is always friendly and inviting. The menu has all the usual stuff in its most delicious form, and they always have a delightful list of specials. The staff are great and reliably helpful too. Nice family spot so there is room for buggies and wheelchairs, but occasionally there are more wheels than the place can handle.

Irwell's is a hidden gem, the food is always outstanding, fresh produce, friendly staff, it has a real cosy family vibe and something on the menu for everyone, I'm a chef and a Foodie and there's no better cafe or bistro in Bury, really under rated spot that I feel people don't recommend as they want to keep it for themselves (guilty) never had an experience less that 10/10 at irwells

Really rubbish unfortunately. ‘All day breakfast’ should be called ‘been sat there all day breakfast’. For £9.99 I had high hopes, I expected something special, you know like Heinz beans and some butchers sausages, maybe an on the vine tomato with a bit of stick still on it. But no, this was honestly the worst breakfast i’v ever had. Hard eggs (been sat under a hot lamp an hour) tasted of old fat that’s been used loads, a barely touched the pan ‘Tesco value’ tomato, over cooked bacon, cheap pork sausage and cheap black pudding slice. And guess what…. No beans!!! Not even aldi beans, no beans what so ever! Weirdly, it came with a sort jacket potato that had been fried …. Odd but was actually the only nearly nice thing on there. Absolutely absurd prices for what they are dishing out. Unfortunately no one even came to ask the obligatory ’everything alright with your meal’. Wait staff not very on it either sadly. Won’t be going back, I’ll have some branston beans on toast at home instead!

My husband and I couldn't drink the cappuccino, it was so bitter. I ordered a scone, it had a weird texture like sponge and tasteless. The jam that came with it tasted like a cheap brand and wasn't nice. My husband had the strawberry cheesecake, the biscuit base was very soggy and again tasteless. We hardly touched the food and coffee. Love the garden centre but won't be returning to the cafe. Very poor.

Nice food and place, staff all nice and friendly apart from one middle aged dark haired women who was very unpleasant and rude ( assumed she was the manager) and barked 'are you sitting inside or out' at us, she was awful... and also saw her speaking to some of the young waitresses like they were something she had trodden in.. Shame as she really let's down what is a nice place to be....

Terrible place, felt very unsafe, no social distance between tables I was sat at the back and it was crammed with tables I was not even 1 meter from the table next to me, no disposable menus when I mentioned this was told the menus were wiped as laminated but watched how a table was cleaned and never saw the menu cleaned, the staff are not wearing face covering like in other restaurants I have been, no gloves were worn by the staff when cleaning tables like I have seen in other places, was left waiting at the till to pay for ages, a disgrace of a place, have reported it as this place is waiting for a corona outbreak won’t be coming again

Absolutely terrible! Cramped, dirty and very low standards! On first impression you may think, nice little cafe, but on sitting down, menus are dogeared and dead bugs and spiders hanging off the walls. I was offered a choice in sauces, to which I choose mayo, it had a solidified crust on the top, so asked for a fresh one. Could not believe what happened next, the girl came back with the top scraped off and just mixed up. It looked absolutely disgusting, completely put me off. Nobody asked if the food was ok and on leaving no thank you from staff. £25 on 2 coke and 2 breakfast, a rip off. Will never return and advise all family and friends against visiting. If I could give no stars I would! Posh nosh it is not!!!
