Easily one of the best bookshops in England and certainly the best in Carlisle.You could spend a whole day here discovering wonderful unexpected rarities!

Eating at Cake and Ale, food lovely but service very slow. Sitting outside in the courtyard is lovely.

Beautiful, rambling, endless rooms and more books than I can count. I can spend an hour just exploring the place, delighted by the atmosphere, before even beginning to start browsing the amazing selection of books! Well organised, friendly staff... There's now a lovely cafe attached "Cake and Ale", which is also great.

Really interesting place. Books galore! New ones, second hand ones, antiquarian books. Spread out over 4 floors. There is music and film available too. There is a cafe attached which we need to try some time. Incredibly fascinating and will be back. Tullie House Museum is in the same street and that is worth a visit. Carlisle Castle is just over the road and the centre of Carlisle too.

I live this shop. It has a really wide range of subjects and within each there is plenty of choice about what to buy. I found a book in my specialist area that i'd never heard of! Purchased it, of course. If your feet get weary, there are lots of chairs around; and if you're thirsty or hungry, there is a small café for you to stay in while making your next decision about what you buy from this extensive collection. It is easy to spend all day enjoying the hunt!

Sells new and second-hand books over multiple floors : you can spend hours there by accident!

It's the best bookshop I have ever been to. Just thousands of books to be discovered it was like dying and going to heaven. Every bibliophiles dream. The cafe had great food too.

Fantastic bookshop with a lovely cafe and garden. Both new books and secondhand. A real gem and reminiscent of how bookshops used to be with an emphasis on the love of books rather merely selling them.
