Popped in briefly on the way home to be most pleasantly surprised. The place has had a full rebuild from the ground up which impressed me greatly.Open and spacious with warm and friendly attention from the staff.A very comfortable atmosphere and I'll most certainly return.Update.Been back a few times since the original review and found the same high standards being upheld. The food I've sampled on each of those occasions is second to none and very reasonably priced.Couldn't fault the place.

Lovely hotel, high specification with lots of amazing touches to make your stay really pleasurable. We had a dog friendly room which included a dog bed, towel, poo bags and treats. Food was delicious and breakfast very satisfying. Have booked again for our return trip

Beautiful Hotel in lovely location. You would never know it was on the side of a main road. The view from our room was to the north, overlooking the countryside. We had evening dinner and breakfast, the food was lovely, the menu had plenty to choose from. The staff were very friendly and professional, we would definitely recommend.

Excellent choice of drinks and cakes. But service very slow with no one supervising waiting staff. This place is nearly very good but lets itself down by slow service (we took 30 minutes from sitting down to getting coffee; people at table beside us waited 30 minutes to be served). Tried to book for family lunch but took 10 minutes to speak to reception as he was on his own answering busy phone and then failed to deal with us as computer didn't work properly.

Disappointing despite great welcome. It's not far from us and we'd been meaning to go for a few weeks. The interior is lovely, very clean, lots of interesting rooms with a different feel to each.Menu was good enough to have something for everyone and the food was really nice. We'd pre-booked but when we arrived the seats we were given were a sofa with a sort of coffee table which was far too low to eat a meal from so we asked for another option and were absolutely welcome to choose our own. Sadly, apart from some tables that were set up for 6 and above and a sort of conservatory that seemed to not be being open for lunch we ended up at a much higher table... With much lower chairs so it was either too low or too high. I was rapidly starting to feel like Goldilocks! The thing though, that disappointed most was how slow the service was. The place was about 1/3 full and we waited 40 minutes for our starters. They were good though. Our plates were cleared 20 minutes after we finished and we waited for our mains. And waited, and waited. Eventually, after 45 minutes they arrived and were great. Our plates were cleared and a few minutes later we were offered desserts. Menu arrived and after 30 we gave up hoping to have our order taken, went to the bar to pay as we didn't dare guess how long we'd be waiting for that to be sorted, and left. There were lots of staff around. We watched with interest as other people, with larger parties than us (we were a 2) came, ordered, ate, wrote a novel or two and grew beards, went on their way and we were still waiting. We just presumed our server either really didn't have her eye on the ball or had served her notice and left.We would normally have had dessert and left a tip. We did neither which meant £20 or more lost in takings from that one meal, no "extra" and a local couple who'll go elsewhere in the future as a 2hr 30 lunch to only have two courses simply is far, far too slow.I wish them well though. Perhaps we were just unlucky but we'll not be back.

Excellent service and food - highly recommended - but please get the gluten free and special diets menu sorted. Having to do a bar code reader (especially when there's no signal!) is not in keeping with everything else. Could do with a slightly wider choice too. But otherwise well worth a stop off. The service is really very of ood indeed. Everyone seems to care.

Absolutely lovely venue, country pub, place to enjoy a peaceful coffee & cake or meal. The staff were friendly, kind and helpful. The cosy feel means I'll definitely be back! We had a sharing charcuterie platter, which was very nice. And the warm scone was extra yummy! Can't wait to come back 😁

Visited the fleece on Boxing day for the Boxing day brunch. The hotel has been built to a high standard. Brunch was absolutely fantastic, food was excellent, staff very welcoming. A really relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed drinks in the stunning library afterwards. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience of this newly refurbished facility. The staff were great, food amazing and the whole ambience was just lovely.Only gripe was that service was a little slow. However, a minor issue in the context of a lovely evening. We'll definitely be back!
