First time having food from here tonight.. the young lad on the phone was helpful overall good service by him however the food was shockingly disappointing… Food is seriously over priced for the portion sizes and quality! The massaman curry was no way near what a massaman is actually like, spicy and in no way creamy.. Pad Thai was okay but nothing special, A real shame and waste of £33.

The restaurant in the picture is the old premises above the Cumberland Inn on Botchergate. Tonight, 16 Feb 22 my wife and I went to the restaurant at its new premises at the corner of Warwick Rd and Crosby Street. The decor is modern and the menu is cut down from what it was. The food was okay and the service was okay as well, but again not as good as it used to be.

Absolutely delicious! Myself and my partner went and had an incredible meal. Bao buns were light and fluffy, my tofu massaman curry was so rich in flavour and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his surf and turf. Lovely change as well to have flavoursome tofu as many restaurants struggle with this - Royal Outpost definitely know how to cook! Staff were friendly also, we shall be back soon. Thank you for the lovely meal.

Quite disappointed with our experience as we were looking forward to trying this restaurant. For starters, we had the bao buns: panko chicken and duck. The panko chicken tasted good but the duck could do with a little less sauce as it was literally swimming with hoisin sauce. Other than that, good starters. The mains were very disappointing. We had the sizzlers: roasted duck and chicken Thai green curry. There was no "sizzling" with the roasted duck. It was like it was just left there. Very poor presentation and such a small portion for the price we had to pay. Also, the Thai green curry....I don't even know what to say. The chicken was definitely NOT fresh. Tasted like it came from tesco, frozen, then just reheated. The menu described it really well but I could not taste the supposedly "lemon grass, Kefir lime, coconut milk etc". Good spice level but it really lacked flavour.

Menu sounds really interesting and tasty so we had high hopes. Staff were lovely I must say however food a complete disappointment so I’m quite confused how this place got almost 5 star reviews… our starters came out in literally about 3 mins after putting in our orders which me and my partner found concerning. Maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen but the food tasted like it came out of a tesco ready meal. The pork belly bites were chewy and as if they were just dipped in shop bought and very basic hoisin sauce. There was nothing authentic about this place whatsoever. Tofu bites 100% came with shop bought ‘just add water’ Katsu curry paste. Honestly felt I was robbed of the £40 I spent just on 5 starters. Would be extremely surprised if the sauces they used were made from scratch. The Diet Coke my partner ordered tasted like it came from tesco own brand 1L bottle definitely not real Diet Coke. Very surprised how busy it was in there.Think this place really needs to rethink the quality of their food instead of drowning it in shop bought sauces and charging above average prices for it. If they put just as much care in their quality as they did to presentation I think it would be an improvement.

I had a meal at the Royal Outpost with two friends early on Friday evening. The food was high quality and plentiful, served by friendly and helpful staff. I would thoroughly recommend it as a place to dine in the centre of Carlisle.

Good food and reasonably priced. New premises on Warwick Rd not like the picture that is shown. Bit disappointed in the menu as there isn't a great deal to choose from. However friendly staff and good service.

The starter portion were small considering the price. All the food was below average, so disappointing. Thai food should not be bland with massive pieces of uncooked mushrooms. It looks like they spent more time trying to make the restaurant look nice instead of focusing on the food. Partner got a hair in their food, they did bring out a new dish, and gave us free out of date lemonade as an apology. All the drinks served that night were out of date by several months/at least a year, they tasted awful. I would never recommend this restaurant
