The Howard Arms Hotel in Carlisle

Dog friendly pub which are allowed in the restaurant area. Quite overpriced for what we had (lamb) with not many vegetables which were cold on arrival. We were that hungry we didn't want to complain as we waited around 40 minutes for our meal. Wanted lemon meringue only to be told they don't do it anymore. All round experience was okay but doubt we will be returning unfortunately for any meals.

Just amazing they had reserved half of the pub for us to sit there. Which as far as I remember has not happened before.Not only that the service was exceptional with a wonderful smile. They were just so friendly and accommodating with us.Absolutely brilliant - thankyou very much to everyone concerned.

Popped in for lunch. Amazing steak and ale pie. My wife has soup and a sandwich which proved to much for her, but we both enjoyed our meal. Dog friendly pub, even got dog treats before we left. Top marks, great service. 👍

Great hotel and pub. Stayed here during the hadiran's wall walk. Easy to get to and find.The room was clean and very comfortable. We had dinner in the pub witch was delicious and very affordable. They serve local food and beer which we especially appreciated.The Howard Arms also has a function room for any meetings etc. Which I found especially helpful for a zoom meeting.There was also a local market in the square the next morning and the bus stop is very close.Can recommend staying here :)

Superb, friendly service. This is more than dog-friendly - this is dog-welcoming!!The food and beer range was very good and the food excellent. My 87-year old mum enjoyed the steak and ale pie from the “Little bites” menu - which was just enough for her appetite.

The Howard is a credit to Brampton. The staff are outstanding and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The food is excellent and great value. Dog and people friendly with lovely log fires. An absolute gem and a credit to the the management and the team.

We were just passing through when we decided to stop for lunch ,had never been before but would highly recommend. There were no tables available so ordered a drink and only had to wait a few minutes till one was available . 2 of us had beef and 1 the duo of sausages ,served on hot plates ,meat and veg were delicious . The staff were really friendly and efficient, will definitely be back .

Stayed overnight room was a good size and decorated well. food in the evening was of good quality plenty choice on the menuBreakfast was a slower service so be prepared to wait a while I suggest you ask for your toast to keep you goingWould definatley return for another stay value for money

Four of us had lunch at the Howard today , it was Brilliant !Great Beer , Fantastic Food, Faultless Service and all at a Great Price.The food was fresh and cooked well , the Steak Pie & Veg was Delicious as was the Apple and Cinnamon Crumble.We Always have a Great time at the Howard , Big Thank you to Team Howard 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Fabulous hosts to our dog though a bit of walk to find a green spot for him in the morning!It was a village centre with a bit of noise as you’d expect. There were a few shops and it looked an interesting spot. My mum and I were on the Hadrians wall walk and we’d recommend it as a stop. The food was good and staff amazing. I really enjoyed my stay.
