The hotel fell well below my expectations on a number of fronts unfortunately. The accommodation was functional but based in a new-build block so rather different to what's suggested in the photos. The rooms are in long echoey corridors with loud closing mechanisms on the doors so it’s loud until the last person is in bed and starts again as the first person gets up for breakfast.The restaurant was expensive and the atmosphere, service and food didn’t come close to what should be on offer for those prices. We were also served warm, flat drinks and were left waiting for long periods of time in an almost-empty restaurant. The hotel was under-staffed and had not received our booking from Secret Escapes on arrival. They found us a room but then the key cards had stopped working within a few hours.

We held our wedding reception at this wonderful hotel! The staff, the food, the rooms, the service, the grounds... everything about this place is exceptional! I have never had banquet style food served so quickly - 3 course dinner for 60 guests served in one hour, plenty of time for the speeches and party!

Stayed one night after our wedding last week. Everything was exemplary and the staff hugely understanding and helpful. We fancy a short r&r break soon so look out we’ll be back!! Thanks again.

Beautiful grounds and a very nice hotel. Being an old building it has different levels and meandering corridors which could add to the charm or hamper if your not so good on your feet. Staff are fabulous and the rooms although very comfortable and clean, some are a little tired.

A bizarre orientation for a hotel, that appears to boast as a country estste venue.The entrance to the hotel appears historical in nature but once you have walked past reception and the lounge area, that's where it ends.You then have to walk down the corridor boasting function rooms on either side, past the function room bar, having negotiated a corner. Then another corridor passing the toilets, another corner and another corridor passing the various conference rooms. Until you've guessed it another corner with a very long corridor with rooms to stay in.When you leave your room there is generally a good smell of food that enters the corridor, whilst you re negotiate all the fire doors that you have previously struggled with, your cases etc, as no assistance given by the hotel.Then dependant on the time if day, you negotiate the two function room overspill out at the bar in their finery, whilst you feel as though you have gate crashed a wedding or 80's revival theme, when trying to leave the premises.Fortunately we had two great meals out at K2H and Golden Pheasant on consecutive days, but had to negotiate the various states of dishelvement to get back to your room via the function room corridors past the bar, corner, corridor, corner corridor conference rooms, corner corridor.The rooms were OK, better at Premier Inn, with the telephone being dusty, but the rest generally clean.At 5.30am we thought someone had broken into our room, but realised it was the inconsiderate guest trying to get the hangers out of the wardrobe and then put them back with clothes on, which for 20 minutes was not great.The radiators were noisy and the plumbing like the QE 2 horn blast.Fortunately we were meeting friends and didn't let it spoil the weekend.Have stayed in worst places, but definitely not worth the money.The gym and pool were fineAll the people that worked there were pleasant, but attention to detail on tables were glass ring marks were etched on the lounge tables at 11am, tray of drinks remained outside near the large feature chess set, just needed up their game as appreciate that Covid 19 restrictions no longer are the norm but basic wiping of areas would assist the potential for its resurgence.Guessing it's for weddings and function room guests rather than couples wanting a break in a country set hotel.We live and learn.......

Room though dated was comfortable and the bed was incredible. Bathrooms need updating however and the rooms would benefit from a little attention to decor. Might also be a consideration to ask staff to be aware of occupied rooms first thing as the noise of the room servicing makes it impossible to sleep in.

Check in was okay, however it could have been a warmer welcome. Partner was staying here for work for a week. I was staying for 1 night and then travelling back home the following day. We had food In the bar and unfortunately we became very ill within hours afterwards. Partner informed reception the following day and they said they would investigate it. We was checked upon by a manager or member of staff and given complimentary lemonades. When checking out we spoke to the receptionist again and they said they would look into the matter, and informed us that we could have been made ill from elsewhere (highly doubtful when it was hours after eating from their bar) Partner had to cancel work which will now have to be re arranged at a different time and the in-laws had to book another day off of work to help with child care. We also overheard from other staff members and guests that the chef shut the kitchen abit earlier than normal due to being overwhelmed! The atmosphere could be alot warmer. All I can say is the staff are very friendly, especially the staff member behind the bar (I didn't get his name) lovely and had some great banter! Deeply disappointed and will not return.

We had a lovely night here. The food was delicious and the accommodation very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

Very poor reception and stay. We stayed in a deluxe room which was no better than a room at an Inkeepers inn Toby Carvery room. There was a constant noise which I can only explain like the sound of a cistern filling which kept my wife up all night. The shower was also blocked. I spoke to Rachel at reception and explained the issues we had and asked as we had a poor night and have booked a 2 night stay could they let us stay an extra night for the inconvenience as it was a wasted night. She said she'd get the problem fixed and let me know. She called about 10 minutes later and said we could stay an extra night for £99 as the room is £165 on a Saturday. I refused and no compensation was given or offered after that. Someone came to fix the problem whilst we used the leisure centre and the sound was gone. I noticed the sound gone but the bathroom extractor fan was no longer working so it looks like they just disconnected it. Furthermore, the dirty towels on the floor were picked up and hanged back up on the clean towels including the bath mat. I complained about this and again no gesture or anything. Throughout our stay the shower remained blocked and reception informed. I asked for another room but that was denied. Why should I expect for people to keep on coming into a room to do repairs for a room which I have paid for. The manager also spoke to me and blatantly said we can't do anything for your inconvenience so I said my review will reflect my stay. All I got from him was I'll reply to it. Horrible staff. The breakfast staff were ok but the bacon was like leather on the first day and the black pudding was stone cold even though it took over 30 minutes to arrive. The so called deluxe room was about a 7 minute internal walk from reception and through corridor to corridor to corridor. Leisure club ok but only used on one day as I found the chlorine too strong.

Big room, tastefully decorated. Reception area is so homely and warm. Receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was tasty and staff helpful.Room could do with information on meal and check out times .Tea tray had two packs of the tiniest biscuit I have ever seen, this could be improved on.Overall a great experience.
