Unfortunately we went to the Vicarage for the first time on Sunday for breakfast. We were given the menu then told we could only have a full cooked breakfast nothing else. My wife ended up just having toast as the plan was to have something other than a cooked breakfast ie: Avocado etc. After a very long wait the toast arrived cold so she left it anyway. My breakfast was nothing more than OK to be honest. It was such a shame as we had been looking forward to it as the place itself looks fantastic.

Fantastic stay, I came to this hotel on the way up north for a stay over. I’m so glad I did!It was beautiful, room was very cleaned and had a great amount of space was really smart. Restaurant and bar had a fantastic ambience, food was fantastic and service down from the management was great. Lovely to see a proper team.Thank you to you all, I will be down again especially at the weekend for live music!

I would not recommend anyone to stay at this “hotel” on the basis of “any issues will be ignored”. That and the plumbing in our room didn’t work and you couldn’t flush the toilet. As well as depending on what room your put into you’ll be woken up by bottles being thrown into the bins. After we complained and moved into a different room we were put in a room next to the bins ! And that was after I had a call before my stay to upsell, offering me an “executive room” at an extra £35 per night with all these great extras!! The toilet didn’t work and we had to use the public toilets until another room was ready and half of the “extras” promised on the phone were not in the room and the ones that were weren’t replenished the following day. After a rather unpleasant call with the General Manager when I had returned home (we were ignored and never contacted whilst there even though we returned to reception various times) she agreed to refund 1 x £35, to date no refund ever received. I had requested 3 x £35 as I felt that fair given I had not received neither the “extras”nor a toilet that worked (which most basic rooms have!). I did not think this was unreasonable and I thought quite fair and justified, the GM did not. Appalled by the lack of customer service at this hotel, never experienced such a unprofessional conversation with a GM, with an attitude of disinterest in the problems experienced. Yet I’ve had to pay for this awful stay and at an upgraded fee!!

Dreadful experience from the minute my partner and I arrived. A lack of organisation on the reception desk meant it took about 20 minutes to checkin. We were led to our Suite which smelt of public toilet blocks and didn’t have a door that closed on the bathroom. We obviously complained and asked for a refund but was told this wasn’t possible because the manager was there but that they would be in touch. 24 hours later and still not received a refund or had a phone call despite us contacting them to chase. They also took an additional £25 for a room deposit on arrival and this also hasn’t been refunded. This was a carefully planned rare one night away were plans had been made for children to be looked after, we had also driven quite a way to get there. We were looking forward to the experience and this ruined things. Do not be fooled by the pictures on the website. It’s old, tired and smelt horrible and apparently it’s acceptable to have a room a ‘suite’ that doesn’t even have a functional bathroom door. Save your money.

Had a takeaway Sunday lunch. The most amazing food, probably one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. Ate in the pub tonight. Lovely atmosphere and again lovely food. Will be back again soon

The staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and the check in process was quick and easy. The hotel room itself wasn't great. The mattress was extremely thin and uncomfortable, the television was locked down in a way that didn't make any sense, for instance the mute and the guide buttons were locked. There was a broken window pane that hadn't been sealed and let a draft in. The room and bathroom were fairly clean. The breakfast the next day was fine, nothing to particularly complain about but nothing to rave about either. Overall it was an okay experience.

Honestly I said to myself that if I had a good experience I would post and I was compelled to by this gem!The vicarage is everything you want and more, it appeals to all age ranges and my stay was amazing. The staff go above and beyond and it was lovely to see a team smile and are clearly a mini family. My room was perfect, sleep was great. Food was spot on, service great. We stayed all weekend, I have to say the Sunday roast is amazing.Too many people don’t post about positive experiences but I didn’t want to do that!Thank you to The Vicarage and keep it up you’re our new favourite place!!

We had the executive four poster room which was lovely. It was facing the main road though so very noisy at night. They had a few nice touches in the room. The bar was really nice - but they had live music which was really loud and irritating, we couldn’t hear each other speak or the staff.Way too noisy at mealtime. The next morning at breakfast there was a table with a few families and children. The children were all running about the place in between where we were sat. The parents didn’t say anything for ages the. Eventually one of the dads told them to leave us alone.I think we were charged extra at breakfast too which I’m not happy about even though we waited an hour as the staff were dealing with the larger table who’d arrived after us.The breakfast was really nice though - although, which I assumed was a basic NO TOAST !!I did like the place - but I wouldn’t return.

I'd been in contact with the 'customer experience manager' before Christmas to get a quote to book a wedding here. We were offered a viewing which we booked in for a month later (mid Jan). The venue is 50 minutes away from our home so we had come out of our way for the viewing, but upon arriving it was very apparent that the customer experience manager was not there and no other members of staff were aware of our appointment. Not a great first impression! I will say that Sophie (unsure of her position, possibly bar manager) did very very well in providing us with a viewing and some helpful information without any time to prepare! Although we weren't shown any rooms which was very disappointing (personally I would spend ÂŁ14k on a venue without knowing the condition of the accommodation.) We were told that we would hear from the customer experience manager as a follow up (I would also expect an explanation or apology about forgetting about us!) but almost a week later we have not heard anything. All in all a really terrible experience, a waste of an almost 2 hour round trip and it's safe to say we won't be booking this venue.

Very disappointing stay!Room extremely poor and definitely not what was expected.. As stated in other reviews the room and hallway smelt extremely unpleasant. The bathroom had a large amount of cracked tiles and seemed in desperate need of updating.Ontop of numerous other complaints we were then charged extra for breakfast, on top of the room rate despite the kitchen being closed that day and only having pastry and toast on offer.
