Food great, nice surroundings and staff. We all really enjoyed our meal

I don’t often take the time to leave reviews but I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The food, wine, service and decor were all perfect. Not too expensive either. My wife and I will definitely be back in the near future.

I booked a table x 4 people, 2 friends travelling from Liverpool for 8pm, special occassion my birthday 60th, we arrived at 19.45pm. I was told your table was 7pm.The lady at the desk was very rude and argumentative stating I was wrong, offered a table in the bar area which was rammed, I stated I would like the table I booked, reply not available. I would suggest you send her on a customer service course we will never book here again, if I could score you -10 I would, 60th birthday ruined

A very old pub indeed. Lovely inside as they've mixed the old with the new. Incredible low ceiling at points but gives it a very nice pub feeling. I didn't eat but good choices of beers. Including neck oil ipa so I was happy.

Since joining the white lion crew staff and kitchen it's been an experience working here lovely hotel the grounds also all the staff are great to work with the food menu is excellent I would recommend a weekend break to the hotel and try the food it's great service freshly made

Been here a couple of times now, once for lunch and once in the evening. Both visits were first class. Fantastic food, attentive service, decent value and a nice setting. More than a match for any of the other gastro pubs in the area. Highly recommended.

Went just before Christmas. Although Christmas menu was online it was not available to order on the day (no information given on line). Absolutely NO Gluten Free on the menu... in this day and age... not acceptable!!!!Service was very very slow!! Staff are more interested in chatting to each other then notice any of the clients!!It used to be a good place... shame!!

We held our wedding celebration meal at The White Lion on Saturday 30th October 2021 for 35 guests and the day couldn't have been more perfect. The staff were incredible from the day of enquiry to breakfast the following morning.Ellie was amazing and helped me to plan the day from the start, answering all of my many questions and reassuring me everything will be in hand. When I arrived the afternoon before to add the finishing touches, the private diving room set up was perfect, with the finished result being even better than I had imagined.The service on the day was impeccable, led by Russell. He ensured our guests were happy and the day ran as smoothly as it did. Once our guests were seated, Russell introduced us into the room as Mr and Mrs Foskett, which was a great touch, thank you!Thank you to the chefs, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their three course meals.Thank you to The White Lion for accommodating our Caricaturist and Singing Waiter - helping him to blend in with the team to surprise our guests after dessert and our photographer SL Photography (Steph) who captured the most stunning photographs of our family in the beautiful garden area.A special mention and thanks also to Reece, Nigel, Hayley, Chris and the rest of the team.To add to our special 11 of us stayed over in the hotel and all enjoyed a very comfortable stay with a gorgeous breakfast the following morning, thank you.Laura & Ben Foskett

After the storm and power out they did well to open Sunday with the snow also. We arrived around 3pm to a reduced menu with item missing from our Sunday roast but forgivable.I thoroughly enjoyed my meal Mrs didn't though said turkey was cold hence 4 stars. I enjoyed the experience though.

Superb restaurant, attentive service and great food. Nice drinks and the bar afterwards had a real fire, and sat on nice wingbacked chairs. All the ingredients of a lovely evening. The view is from the hotel room in the morning, with peace and quiet and pleasant bird song.
