Branded as 'dog friendly' yet dogs are not allowed upstairs. There is no signage to confirm that is indeed the case, nor were the reasons explained to us. We came all the way from York to enjoy folk music, yet were not able to do that, as this was taking place upstairs. Even one of the performers had to come dowstairs, as with her tiny dog. Incredibly dissapointing and upsetting experience.

By far the best Sunday dinner in Chester. Veg always cooked to perfection. Generous portions, super tasty gravy, and fast and attentive service. What’s not to love? ❤️

What a lovely pub, so much character and a cosy fire burning. The homemade steak and ale pie was amazing , full of meat and very tasty. Large portions also.Staff were very friendly and welcoming, definitely recommend .

Lovely olde pub with great selection of ales and pub food. Faster if you get your table number and order at the bar yourself! Would be 5 stars if there was more choice for GF or health eaters (no salad options?).

Old Inn, full of rustic charm. Friendly service. Good selection of ale on tap and menu looked extensive although we only had drinks did spy plates passing that looked impressive.

Went here for the first time with some friends after first term of Uni. Was made to feel welcome by the two women behind the bar from the off. Excellent food for a good price and nice selection of drinks. Plus the building itself is beautiful. 10/10 will be back.

Went into this lovely old place for my birthday late lunch. Atmosphere was nice & Christmas cosy & the staff was friendly enough. But! We were quite disappointed with the burgers & chips we ordered. The wood plates they came on a much too small, the burgers for the price were so small! Overcooked meat, too thick for the bun size, buns were a bit hard too. A choke burger basically, chips were a bit undercooked. There you have it, when asked by the gentleman how we liked our food we were honest & told him what we thought. He just said oh? He walked off... that was it, we paid the bill & won't be back unfortunately.

Unique historic place, friendly vibe and delicious food.

Fantastic old pub serving fantastic homemade food at very reasonable prices. The barman works very hard and the place has an excellent range of ales, ciders and beers - well worth a visit !
