Booked The Black dog for a Sunday roast with the family and a baby. The furnishings and interior is beautiful and clean very modern with a calm atmosphere. Dinner was delicious especially the cauliflower cheese, portion size is just right and service was pleasant and professional 😇 will definitely be returning and highly recommend. We have sat both indoors and outdoors in the igloos and both are a lovely experience x

Very pleasant dining experience. Welcoming staff, delicious starters and mains, exquisite presentation. I was impressed and the cocktails (2 for 12£) made it go down all the more easily. Would recommend - I'm going back for the desserts.

Went for a meal to celebrate my birthday and the experience was ruined by an uncuth member of staff. Service is rather slow. Ran out of time to get a dessert in during our 18 months nap. Only just managed to get some bread and a main in during the 100mins we were there. The food was generaly good but my steak was also overcooked, i asked for it rare. See photo.

We phoned to book and confirm we could take our wee dog with us. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Delicious food, all freshly made and generous portions. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and explained some of the ingredients. Even the dog was looked after with a water bowl brought out for her.

I went there for my 21st Birthday and it was incredible! The food was exquisite and tasty! Fine dining at its best. The waitress Rebecca was so lovely and she gave me a birthday cake. Happily come back as always

Just had a lovely meal here, to end a wonderful break in Chester. Stumbled upon this unassuming pub on the main road out of the town and thought we’d give it a try, after reading good reviews and seeing the food pics.First impressions from the car park were very positive - they have dining domes out the back. A good idea for “safe” social gatherings and adds some wow factor to the experience.Upon entering, we were welcomed with a smile from the lady host and I must say, the interior decor is rather special. Very nice design, homely yet cool and noticeably very clean! The menu was simple yet innovative. Good choice of dishes and some interesting ingredients used. The black pudding Bon Bons, duck main and roasted caramelised carrots were highlights. The chef was kind enough to give us a complimentary dessert - which was listed on the menu simply as “Surprise”. Well, it was a very pleasant surprise as it was his take on Bombe Alaska, but with lemon curd inside - perfect, light, tangy and not too sweet. Good end to the meal.Service was friendly and attentive throughout. A nice touch was the Chef Owner, Matt, coming out to talk with us, asking how the food was and telling us a bit more about the business and his philosophy on food. Matt’s passion for his craft and dedication for his business was clear to see and really inspiring. I wish him and The Black Dog all the best with the future - if the food and service stays as good as this, I know he will be a huge success.Would recommend everyone to try out this place 5/5

I booked for my niece's birthday lunch. Due to a review saying that they booked but was closed on arrival, I made the booking on the phone with a male - manager? On arrival, it was closed! I couldn't believe this after travelling for over an hour. I have cancer and this was one of only a couple of outings in 2 years, as explained when I made the reservation. There were several other people there too, including 2 families with children who showed us the pub advertisement online ,offering free lunchtime pizza for kids over halfterm - it was the Wednesday of half term!We rang and a woman said she would come out - she didn't so we knocked on the door . The chef, Matt, came out and was shouting that they were always closed on a Wednesday lunchtime. My niece pointed out their advert offering free pizza that lunchtime and he had no answer. He eventually offered to cook for us but we were both too upset to want to stay. He said he would investigate the booking and call me that evening. To date, I have not heard from him. He also offered a free meal for us both, but as no confirmation has been received, I do not want to travel all that way again. The appeal of this venue was the domes as, being immuno compromised, it seemed ideal. Only result was both my niece and I in tears and a ruined birthday!

My family and I dined here for our Christmas dinner and had to wait an hour for bread and a further 45 minutes for our starters. We were sat outside in pods as per our booking, however they had minimal heating and resulted in us eating our meals in our coats. The staff didn’t bother checking on us and the service was so slow some of our party had to leave before it had finished because they had already spent nearly 4 hours at the restaurant and had other commitments. When the starters finally arrived they were very nice, but the main course was disappointing to say the least. We were served a small plate of turkey with a couple of pigs in blankets, 3 roast potatoes, stuffing, and gravy. The vegetables were provided separately and we had to share them (there wasn't enough for all 7 of us, so I went without).I appreciate the fact that it was Christmas day and you told us you were understaffed when we were seated. We wouldn’t usually complain but we spent hundreds of pounds and received a poor service, small portions, and a disappointing part of Christmas. We have been previously and had a lovely time which is why we booked for Christmas.

Booked a dome for my wife's birthday. Had a really nice time. Staff were really friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Food was absolutely spot on. No complaints at all. Nice experience sat outside in the heated dome. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended.

Good food, service is very slow, waited an a hour for food and had to eat a three course meal in the following hour, as the table was being reused for another booking. So felt very rushed. Great ideas there but not sure we will go again. Also no draft lager, only bottles, and very limited choice on non-alcoholic beers.
