Where is Hungry Horse - The Rake?

🏠 Rake Ln, Little Stanney, Chester CH2 4HS

"A magnificent Grade II listed building which originated as a country house, the home of the Bunbury family, built in the 17th century, and later altered and expanded. It sits on Rake Lane just a stones throw (with a good arm) away from the busy Cheshire Oaks shopping 'village', but as it's surrounded by a huge garden you could easily be fooled into thinking you were in the middle of the countryside - so the perfect place to pop your feet up and refuel after a busy 'retail therapy' day."

Newly refurbished. Very comfortable. Good selection of beers, lager, wines and spirits. Car park. Outside seating with a large marquee sheltered area. Serves excellent food. Very popular at the the time of visiting. We'll worth a visit.

Fantastic service, and the food was decent. I really liked the decor, and the place felt homely and welcoming. The food let it down a tad - I got the roast beef "with all the trimmings" which was just shy of £20. I expect good food for that price, and while it looked great on the plate, in reality things were a little different. The Yorkshire pud was so hard that even using a knife to cut it proved problematic, and bits flew everywhere. The meat was delicious if a little fatty. The roast potatoes were hard, and not deliciously crispy hard, but instead "I've been under a hot lamp' hard. The parsnip mash was good but what a paltry serving. The dessert of hot waffle with caramelised banana was excellent, as was the chicken liver pate starter.More work needed but will definitely be back at some point.

Nice inside outside was lovely. The staff was nice. Food was good but a bit pricey. Sadly the beer I had was dreadful, but fingers crossed it was just that make. I would recommend a visit if your in the area.

Locals told me how good Rake Hall is since it was refurbished and re-opened. Lovely place for a meal or just a good pint of beer. There's indoor and outside seating, as well as a good sized free carpark. It's close to Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere Port and M53 junction 10. It's a popular place and the food is good, so it's best to book online in advance.

Very nice inside. We had a table booked for 8pm on Friday. It was overly busy. Food arrived after 9, and although the food was good, one of the meals was only lukewarm. Think maybe they had taken on too many bookings. The waitress was rushed off her feet, but very attentive and pleasant.
