Oak Royal Golf & Country Club in Chorley

I booked with this hotel through Hotels.com for June of this year because I was attending my brother-in-law’s wedding. When the country went into lockdown I, like many others, had to cancel. I contacted Hotels.com who assured me they would help me resolve the issue. After ringing the hotel multiple time however, they were unable to reach them and when they did reach them, were told it was too late for the room to be cancelled (because at this point it had gone past stay date). I expected the hotel owners to be more understanding and sympathetic under the current conditions and was incredibly upset to get this news. It is also a shame because when the wedding was meant to have occurred this year, the majority of the wedding party (including Bride and Groom) were staying at this hotel but after this experience absolutely none of us will be looking to book for the wedding’s new date.

I paid for afternoon tea for four on Groupon. I'd say that the sandwiches between us wasn't really enough. The cakes were tiny but sufficient. Best thing was the scones with cream and jam. I probably wouldn't go back. Hardly anyone was there so the atmosphere was a bit flat. Very clean which is good, but all a bit clinical for my taste.

Had a great day and night at the oak royal. It was my wife and I 's great nephew Thomas and Nicole's wedding. Every thing was fantastic, all the family and friends looked lovely. The venue was amazing and the atmosphere and entertainment brilliant. We all enjoyed the meal and had a good night, I also enjoyed the supper, maybe I had one too many G&T's but it was brilliant. Also found the rooms to be very nice with a lovely bathroom and comfy bed, the oak royal is a lovely place for a wedding and to stay I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks Tom and Nicole for inviting us we loved it.

Excellent location set in lovely grounds with good views from restaurant. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. We were a party of four and had booked a Travelzoo offer. Our menu was a little limited but the food was excellent. We all had different meals which were cooked perfectly. Will definitely return. We booked early so a little quiet at first but atmosphere livened up as more people arrived.

Outstanding, stayed for three nights, during the week, whilst working in the area. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the location is a perfect place to wind down after a busy day. I had a room on the second floor, in the eaves, but it was a good size and very well presented. The shower was the stand out item in the room, I've never had so many options of how to get wet, it was fantastic! The food was on a par with the rest of the hotel, I could not fault it, and the breakfast set me up for the day. It was obvious there was a chef in the kitchen, the scrambled eggs and bacon were done to perfection. There is no doubt, the next time I'm visiting our Blackburn office, I'll be staying here.

Myself and 3 friends went for a treat of afternoon tea. To say we where disappointed is an understatement. I never write bad reviews but we where really looking forward to today and it was a much needed treat for us all. The sandwiches where so tiny and no where near enough for the four of us. Our ham sandwiches where all on hard bread. The lettuce was really dirty and one piece had slime on, which I took photos of. Our cakes where really hard crispy brownies and flap jack which was also hard. We tapped them with our fingernails they where that bad. The nicest thing was the pink dessert in the little bowls and the scones where lovely and warm but so crumbly. The cream was really hard and we couldn’t spread it on the scones without them breaking into lots of pieces. Such ashame as we always love our afternoon tea treats elsewhere. The oak royal looks so lovely on the outside. Work on the afternoon tea and you won’t get bad reviews.

Went for afternoon tea, which was on an offer from Groupon at half the normal price. It was nice, not wow by any means. We were stood waiting at the bar to be seen or seated for over 5mins. It was a really warm day and the offer of eating outside would have been welcome, but no.Food and drink was nice enough, but it was the ambience or lack of it, that takes points away. Oh and the the one member of staff we were served by, nice enough chap, but after we got our pot of tea and food stand, we never saw him again.The hotel and grounds look nice but sorry, wouldn't rush back!!

We had a party of 10 booked on the New Years Eve Dinner event. The food and service was excellent and the entertainment was definitely a night to remember with friends old and new! Grant and his team did a fantastic job! Will definitely be coming back next year!

Took my friend as a birthday treat for afternoon tea. Not only vey disappointed but embarrassed by the quality & presentation. Sandwiches with poor quality fillings & an excuse for cakes! I would be hard pushed to believe they were freshly homemade.I will not be visiting again

Very expensive for what it was. Okay food but at 9:15am our wedding party of 25 arrived for breakfast and there were no plates no milk no glasses or cups only one poor guy trying to see to people's requests. Food was needing replenishing and after waiting for 15 minutes decided to get toast and poor bloke tried to meet our orders for tea toast etc. Go to Premier Inn for better rooms and breakfasts. They were apparently short staffed because they had a large wedding later on. What about our our wedding!!Most of the staff were fine but clearly not enough of them and we were wrongly advised by reception staff re the option to change the room order.
