Booked a table here for a family members birthday. Most of us ordered a roast dinner, which was £17 each. We thought for the price it must be something special. We were so disappointed with the size of the portion for the price. The roast consisted of 2 medium slices of beef, 3 medium roast potatoes, 1 small piece of brocolli, 1 piece of carrot, and 1 medium yorkshire pudding. I felt the price was a joke for the small amount of food recieved. We were all still hungry! Definitely not worth the price! Thought it would be a nice change from the Boars Head just down the road, but not for the hefty prices and small portions.

It was the tiniest portion of food we've ever had.We was still hungry after It.It was well presented and nice staff but it was more like a starter than a main and for £14 it's a bit steep to come away still hungry.

Stopped for Sunday roast, lovely meal beef cooked perfectly. Not everyone would like pink but it was beautiful. Portion adequate however pricey. Service friendly and you are allowed to bring your pet ( as long as is clean and well behaved- 😀 thanks god ours was)

The food as always was very nice. Unfortunately when we visited it was extremely busy - standing room only. Although there where lots of staff the service was very slow.

We visited today, we were served by a lovely young lady called Molly, the food was amazing, the staff always go that extra mile, with their warm welcome, fast and efficient service, but above all their always smiling, making you feel special. The food is amazing, and reasonably priced, think we have tried everything on the menu, from pies to full roast dinner, and I can honestly say, we have never had a poor meal or service. I would highly recommend a visit, try it out yourself, and like us, you will keep returning, we’ve recently moved to Cumbria, but still travel down once or twice a mth for food and drinks.

Fantastic pub with a great atmosphere, the staff are really friendly and very personable. This is easily one of the best pubs I have ever been to. The fish and chips were to die for. My fiance had steak and kidney pudding which I was jealous of, but both meals were fantastic. Double fried proper chips with noth meals is something that takes longer, but tastes so much better. The ice cream my daughter had was amazing and she's obsessed with honeycomb, so being able to have it as an add on is a great touch. Thwaites have done an awful lot in the past couple of years to improve their pubs and hopefully it'll start paying back in spades once we get over covid. Will definitely be coming back again.

Nice atmosphere with good food. Cheese and onion pie was gorgeous but I was expecting a selection of veg for the price, instead of the minute offering on top of the pie! I found that it is more expensive than on previous visits. Good table service.

We were invited to share a meal with some friends for their birthday. Upon arrival, there was a lovely and welcoming atmosphere, polite and courteous staff and a wealth of delicious dishes to delight the palate. It's the first time my Wife and I had been there, but it won't be the last.

Such a lovely pub. The young waitresses were very nice and helpful. One poor girl had lost her voice but was still smiling and was so nice. The actual pub is very nicely decorated and clean. We got to the pub for 11.30 when it opened and we were warmly welcomed and given a table. We ordered the garlic tomato chill bread which was very light n tasty. We also had the duck spring rolls and they were very nice with plenty of duck inside. We both chose the suet steak and kidney pudding with chips and peas. I opted for Savoy cabbage. The pudding was delicious. It was so big I couldn’t eat the chips. We both really enjoyed our meals. Starters are roughly £6.95 and mains can vary from £10.95 up to £20 depending on what you choose to order. The atmosphere was very relaxing and it wasn’t noisy even when more people started coming in. I’ll definitely be visiting again especially in summer as the beer garden is a good decent size. Two car parks which is a bonus one around the back of the pub and one as the side. We didn’t have any issues with parking which again was a bonus.
