I'm not from the area but when I'm visiting, I often make a bee-line for this place as a treat. It's quite pricey and portions aren't huge but the chips are possibly the best I've ever had. Delicious again on a recent visit. Great stuff.

Been here a couple of years ago but know this Fish & Chips Restaurant is VILE. So greasy. Dont understand why it has not been closed down yet? Feel like I needed to wash my mouth with soap after I went in - Which is what other people feel like. Please, for your own saftey dont bother going...

WATCH OUT! False deceptive pricing! They advertise fish prices making you think that's the price for fish and chips like every other chippy in the UK but you will be in for a surprise when you get the bill, chips not including. The oil they used was old and left me feeling sick.

We were at Whitehaven recently, and as recommended Arrighis chip shop for a decent fish and chip lunch. As we were with a group of friends, we were chatting while one of our group ordered food, so didn't see the food until we left and opened them up to eat 5 minutes later. The chips were extremely well done on the outside, but raw in the middle, the fish wasn't any better and seemed not quite hot enough inside, had several bones in it also, and the batter had a burnt taste (but looked ok). The one that ordered the food said that the woman that served him seemed a little intoxicated and he could smell the booze from the night before, and this was at 12:15.We decided not to go back and ask for a refund, even though I would have myself, and decided to go to another chippy. One of the local suggested we try either "The Fish Bar" in the market place, or "Frasers" (formerly Crosbys). We decided on Frasers as we were closer to it, and decided to eat in this time, and we've got to say, they were miles apart, food was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious.

Staff good. Chips usually very undercooked. Hygiene rating of 2 in Feb 2018. I think that's all you need to know. July 2018 managed hygiene rating of 4.

Had some chips this afternoon with my neighbour Peggy. As usual the staff were really friendly. Definitely a nice place to go for some food.

Avoid at all costs! One star is far too much. The food from here is absolutely disgusting. They should pay people to eat here. The chips were extremely greasy, covered in black bits from the oil. The Chips were also full of bad bits so they evidently dont check the potatoes before cooking them.

The restaurant, service & waitresses were excellent but the food was terrible unfortunately. Seemed like the prices were put up specially for the Maritime Festival & the fish & chips were a rip off at £9.95 a portion. The burger for £7.95 looked good but it was cold & the chips tasted like they had stood for hours. Disappointing for my visitors who had come a long way to visit the festival & had heard such good reviews for Arrighis in the past.
