Had a great night at the Queen's Hotel. Room was clean an comfortable. Staff were pleasant and helpful and there was a great atmosphere in the bar. There is a great outside area with plenty of tables. Would definitely stay there again.

Great atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and we felt welcome from the moment we went in. Pub quiz on Thursday - loved it!

Right in the centre of St Bees we parked at the railway station 2 minutes from the hotel. Room was decorated to decent standard and tea and coffee available. Toiletries available in bathroomFood menu was good although we sat in the bar to eat which was rather noisyBreakfast was a mixed experience help yourself to drinks and cereal. order taken for cooked breakfast unfortunately requested toast never arrived although we should have shouted up but didn't like to. Good price for an overnight stay

On the day we arrived wed 4 May, we were welcomed we were given keys to our room and were then told we had a key for a door to let us in if the pub was closed, very Friendly staff, everyone was helpful, we had to park the car off site but was not far away and was free to park, the room was lovely, had a extra big bed, large bath and was clean, my husband is a fussy eater and it's the first time I've heard him say he loved the food 😀, will definitely be going here again.

This is a tough review to write, it is a mixed venue, pivoting wildly from good to bad. My stay was for three nightstl:dr Would I recommend it? No, not really. In this day and age it should just be betterStarting with positives, I would say that the room was clean and tidy, linens were good and the shower had pressure and temperature to die for. The owner was very pleasant, in fact so friendly, I feel bad for some of the comments to followThe room had the quirk of a floor that sloped about 8inches from one side to another. I know, it's an old building, I only mention it because it is genuinely odd to walk aroundThe bathroom is poor, so small as to be impractical. The loo so close to the wall and towel rail that you have to sit diagonally, especially when the towel rail is hot! The shower itself isn't bad, but the door is awkward. Anybody 13st plus is going to almost need to exit sideways. When out, there isn't enough room to dry yourself without your backside pressing against the door. Lighting was bad, out of 3 spots, 1 was broken, 1 had 2 dimly glowing LEDs and the last worked, but flickeredLighting was an issue everywhere. The landings, breakfast room etc all had bulbs that needed changingThe whole place needs some basic and long overdue maintenance along with a good cleanDuring our stay we spotted broken windows repaired with cardboard and tape, and not just the day before, christmas decorations still up in the pool room (mid April!), A garden that needs some weedol etc not major things, but simple maintenance that has been ignored for some timeIn terms of cleanliness there was also issues. The room was good, but most other places would benefit from a good dust and clean, there is some thick cobwebs that have been around a whileAt breakfast, your cups are upside down but when you turn it around you will need to wipe the dust out of it. We saw tables get an anti bac spray, but the ensuing wipe only caught about 2/3 of the surface. Worryingly, the place mats were simply collected and put back into the mat stack without being wiped at all. Rendering the half hearted table wipe utterly pointlessIn your room is an info sheet, it informs you that your room will not be freshened up, towels changed or anything 'because of covid' Should you require anything like towels you need to ask at the bar. This is just ridiculous, not a single staff member wore a mask at any time, yet the room couldn't be freshened up?Food is served 6pm to 8pm, there is two bars that don't open till 3pm, or 2pm Friday and Saturday. There is breakfast for residents but I don't think it's open to anyone else. Now at first glance this might not seem a big deal, but this is a village, it is not brimming over with places to go. Imagine turning up at 3pm to check-in and discovering that if you want some food after your long journey then it's either crisps or a trip somewhere else. Imagine going for a walk after breakfast and getting back at midday and realising you can't get a drink, short of making a coffee in your room. Honestly the only thing you can do is hop on the train and go to Whitehaven, the trains are roughly hourly. It's crazy awkward and completely backwardsThe general vibe of the place is also mixed, it can be virtually empty or quite raucous. I'm talking lads swearing and doing shots at the bar (whilst vaping) about 12ft away from couples and families trying to have a meal. The garden was similar, parents with a young child on one table and then rowdy shot guzzling lads on another and a group of students in fancy dress 'on a mission' on another. It really is mixed! There is no way I would eat here on a SaturdayThe place really needs to decide what it is. At the moment it's a hotel pub, with rubbish opening times catering for both rowdy drinkers and quiet meals. It doesn't workSomehow it could be a great country pub, where you could stop off at lunchtime and get a pint and a sandwich, it could do Sunday lunch etc but it doesn't.I'd like to recommend it because of the owner's friendliness but I just can't

We had food here ahead of the pub quiz whilst we stayed in St Bees. The food was excellent - big portions and really tasty, so much so that we couldn't contemplate dessert.Good atmosphere and we enjoyed the quiz

Nice pub. Spent a week away and stayed in St Bees. Find this pub the best in the village. Food very nice.

Was here a for a private party. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great atmosphere. Ample seating both inside and out.Superb mix of sandwiches on the buffet, all freshly made. Great chips as well. All in all was a very enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommended for a private function.

The hotel is old so don't expect modern sleek decor - but the portions were super size and our fish and chips freshly cooked. My daughter's pizza was pretty good too - nice thin crust (she hates those puffed up thick dough bases!).My wife could only manage about two thirds of her fish, but enjoyed what she could manage.I particularly liked the little pot of tartare sauce with the fish - almost worth coming just for that if you are into tartare sauce...There was a small outdoor area beside the dining area. It looked attractive (though we were seated inside).Service initially was very fast - well done. At the end when I asked for the bill our waitress initially forgot - but this was a small niggle, and the hotel was understandably busy as it was Saturday night.A pint of Coke, bottle of white wine (£17) , pizza (£9.95, a little pricey) and two fish and chips @ £13.95 each set us back £58.We'd all definitely go back, the food was very good.
