Lovely pipping hot ,fresh food. Served in a beautiful located restaurant, overlooking the harbour. We were served by very pleasant waiting staff. (who are very fast at serving & clearing away) who work very hard. The place is spotless.

Chicken Curry & sweet potato fries?! 👩‍🍳💋A great mega portion for this busy hungry mum! And my dog was allowed to sit in the restaraunt with me too! ❤️ I’ll be back 🤖

This is a great place, I'm annoyed that we all delved into our food without remembering to take a pic first! When I first saw the menu, my immediate thought was that any menu that big will be tough to deliver, but they pulled it off wellOur group went for loaded chunkies, onion bombs roasted cod loin special, the steak one and the mozzarella chicken buttie. Truly a wide variety! All the food was great. The cod special in particular was excellent. A generous slab of cod atop sweet potato and curry sauce, not to mention the lovely crumb and even a skewer of prawns on the side. It's making my mouth water just remembering itWe rounded off the evening with chocolate brownie and apple and blackberry crumble.Everything was generously sized and reasonably priced. I will definitely return next time I'm in Whitehaven

First of all, we hadn't booked so called as an 'off-chance'. There seemed to be dome amount of oo'ing and ah'ing but we were finally given the green light. Thus kind of perplexed me in the end because throughout our visit there were plenty of empty tables. Anyway. Staff were pleasant and attentive which I appreciated. Now, it was probably me not reading the menu but I was super hungry, I ordered meatballs as a sharing option. As my partner I'd vegetarian I knew this would be all mine. When our food arrived I had a plate of meatballs which is fine but considering these were to share (supposedly) it was a very meager portion and nothing else to accompany them. No pasta, spuds, veg or anything, it was literally just a small portion of meatballs which wouldn't have been enough for 2 people. Had the menu said you needed to order sides it would have been great, indeed the waitress could have asked but didn't. And I genuinely don't remember reading anything on the menu to suggest I needed to order sides.Still, food arrived very promptly which was good and although I was expecting something a little different as mentioned above, it was still presented very well and I dived into my food. And this is the most dissapointing part for me. I don't know why the chef's /cooks did this but they must have added sugar to the meatball sauce and not just a sprinkling to sweeten the tomatoes. It was so sweet, like sooooooooooo sweet, it could have been mistaken as a dessert - with meat in it. Never have I had a main course taste so sickly. Now - thus is where I am trying to show some decorum because I was so hungry, I at most of my meal, I didn't complain and therefore I didn't give them a chance to correct anything either. So from this experience I wouldn't form my full opinion on the place just yet but I would approach my next visit with some more guarded anticipation and pay a bit more attention to things than I have previously.

Classier than a Wetherspoons and appeared to be a local business - we had lunch here and enjoyed both the food and the place. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. If you sit upstairs you might even get a view of the harbour.Try the sticky toffee pudding...

Delicious food. Chef takes all the credit. When we arrived at the quiet time of late afternoon, we asked for a table'Ave yer booked?' we were asked. The place was empty. After five to ten full minutes of checking the PC screen, looking at the layout AND phoning someone for confirmation, we were told 'she will take you up' at which we were allowed to the first floor, also empty. Then told we could not sit in the window and waved to the farthest table from the views, Table 13. (If not superstitious, by now we were). Had not Whitehaven been without competition we would have been outta there. Pictures taken pre and post meal show that there was no imminent coach party and it was as quiet after eating as before. Shame, because the cheesy mash was divine, the Thai coconut mussels amazing and the chilli butter on sourdough a perfect accompaniment. (Seriously, that chef needs to set his sights higher!) My husband's belly pork and root vegetable gratin received full approval. The best meal and the worst welcome ever. The bemused customer.Photo 1.before. Photo 2. After
