Very pleasant place to stay. Good value for the price. Able to handle vegan and gluten free meal requests. Good local ales available.

After a lovely day cruising Ullswater we thought we would visit to have a drink and meal. On first impressions it seemed a lovely old pub. We settled down with our drinks and crisps and within a few minutes a reserved sign was clattered down on our table. When we asked whether it was reserved for us so we could eat we we were rudely answered that “no” and that they were fully booked and we had to vacate by 6pm. Very friendly - not!!

The whole stay we had from 18/20th of February was great from start to finish. The food was excellent our room was top notch and the care of the staff was first class. An extra shout out to Amy as i left my charger for my kindle behind and after a phone call from me duly posted it back to me .Above and beyond comes to mind. You can't go wrong in booking to stay here xx

We stopped off here for a drink on the way to Aira Force Waterfall. So glad we did. It has a decent size car park, which has cracking views over Ullswater. We hit lucky and got a table out front in the sun with awesome views over Ullswater and accross through the mountains. I had my hand scope with me which we used to see the different boats on the lake and people climbing to the mountain peaks. The pub was a nice classic English pub inside with friendly staff and some decent eating areas. I wish we'd had time to stay for food as it looked and smelled really good.

Nice room with a great view, breakfast good but evening meal choice, taste and delivery is appalling. Burger was inedible, it was so full of salt it was revolting, next night I ordered a starter only for them to say the main was ready before the starter, would I like the starter at the same time !!! Amateur

Dog friendly 👍👍 staff were very welcoming, got my dog a bowl of water and a few treats. Good choice of ales and an open fire roaring away! Recommend

Great staff, fantastic food, micro brewery on site for Ales, what more do you need!! By far the best burgers we've had in the Lakes!

Varied review. Some great Pros-Cosy Pub Lounge, Coal fire, Delicious Bar Menu, Very comfy bed (room 3), Quality towels, Great breakfast menu even for Vegetarians. Scenic view from my room. Quiet location. Good on-site parking. Was clean.Cons- Shower room poor & old..Too 'out of the way' for my needs.(long traveling to & from Keswick to meet friends daily). One male staff rather curt so this unfriendly/unwelcoming.Shabby areas past the public lounge areas. Finally, when my friend arrived, late evening, there was no booking for her nor room! Had walkers not up and left a cold chalet 15, there would have been no private room.No Apology, even no looking at all her confirmation emails. This was a shock. (Later found heating was on in room 15 but not adequate for size of room and large bathroom.)Hence my mixed Review

Really nice food and good selection of real ale form the pub's own brewery. Although short handed the staff were warm and friendly and worked hard throughout the night to keep everyone happy. Well done
