"Hidden away in the tiny hamlet of Melkinthorpe in the Eden Valley is one of the country’s great horticultural gems. Established by the Cumbrian landscape designer Peter Stott, the owner in 1984, the business has grown from originally providing plants for his landscaping business into a true garden of Eden with a thriving nursery. Romanesque walls, draped with greenery, act as a backdrop for the plant displays bursting with mature stock plants that have been cultivated on the local land. There’s an intimacy and tranquillity to these gardens, which have been cleverly planted and arranged in a series of outdoor rooms. Over the years, Peter has worked tirelessly to create romantic settings with pathways that lead the visitor on a journey thro"

Fantastic selection of beautiful plants. A definite experience with the many different areas within the nursery. Worth a visit.

Excellent nursery with a wide selection of plants and outdoor decor (you could literally spend a day here wandering the various aisles!) The restaurant is beautifully decorated and it's such a treat to be able to sit on the balcony under the wisteria and enjoy the view. The pizza and dutch apple cake were excellent and the menu has a good selection for vegetarians. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed the day we were there but they were still very attentive and friendly. I've marked down one star only because the cutlery and crockery were a little dirty and scratched. Otherwise a really wonderful experience.

Nursery is well stocked and displayed, the restaurant is lovely too as we have visited in the past. Today however we were disappointed as the waitress rather abruptly informed us that they were not serving food, this was approx 14:10 and I see online that they serve much later than this. Be lucky if we visit again after this poor reception

This has got to be the best ever garden centre. Apart from the extensive range of plants on offer, the delightful setting (and the free parking!) the gallery, shop and restaurant makes this an absolutely must visit. Brilliant!

I got some excellent quality dwarf cedar trees from this company. Very well packaged and quick delivery with tracking. They have excellent customer service and I would highly recommend them and will use again in future

Beautiful, beautiful place. When entering the garden centre I felt like I'd entered 'the secret garden', layout so pretty. The cafe was also lovely and friendly and food very tasty and reasonably priced.

A great find courtesy of the book the extra mile. For a place in the middle of nowhere and on a dead end road on arriving it was a welcome change from the stops we have used in the past. Get the impression it's a locals garden centre and being set out in an Italian style it would be a treasure to have have on your doorstep.Cafe was open on our visit offering a limited "covid" menu. It had a nice seating area outside with 3 bantam chickens cleaning up any spare crumbs. No four legged friends allowed here I am afraid but due to the layout out and wildlife you can understand why.Not sure how previous people have become lost in the one way system that operates here just follow the paths.

Amazing little find! Beautiful cafe with the best wisteria I have ever seen! And a huge plant nursery with some amazing statues and garden ornaments!

I was sent plants and the quality was pretty poor for the bamboo I ordered. Apart from the pots being smashed by the delivery people (no apology from Larch for this) the bamboo came as just one stick, (second photo).I didn't realise my local nursery actually sold the same bamboo until afterwards and I took a photo (3rd photo) to show Larch nursery (Jo) why I was not happy. No refund or partial refund (unless I sent the poor excuse for bamboo back at cost to me, more than the plant is worth) and really very poor customer relations. I will not be using this nursery again.

It is located in a very small village and really is a "hidden gem". The shop is relatively small but the plant display is very extensive. Large selection of plants and particularly good selection of trees which looked beautiful in their autumn colours. The range of conifers was particularly impressive - over 500 varieties. Check the A-Z list on the website. Some unusual and very substantial garden sculptures, figures and statues.
