Nice local pub just off the M6. We stopped for lunch to meet half way between Scotland and Yorkshire with family. Food was delicious! The game burger was so flavoursome and the fish and chips special was incredible!

I really hate being told :"You're certain to love this...""You MUST go to this place".So I won't. Just go there anyway - it's great :)Dropped in for food en route late Sun afternoon. A full meal would make me sleepy in the rest of the longish drive so went for a small roast beef. No soggy, stewed veg, dried or chewy meat here.It was one of the best I've had and not reduced in any way except volume ... and even then not that small. Good quality beef, at least five veg... all ideally cooked and carefully presented(well done kitchen!), roast and boiled pots. Then great variety of ice creams to chose from.Interacted with several staff who were all pleasant, helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. The building is ancient but very well maintained outside and in with a carefully refurbished interior.By now I'm thinking this could be sounding like a spoof but I'm not going to back down just to make it seem more convincing.Congrats to all at the Shepherds Inn.I'll be back as soon as I can.

Stopped in for a bite to eat on the way to Centre Parcs! Food was fantastic and they serve an unbelievable pint of Guinness. One of the best I've had in England! Also, I think it was the land lady offered to hold the baby while we had our food! So nice, friendly and welcoming

Came here 8/11/21. Stopped for lunch whilst driving up to Centre Parcs. We ordered 2 hot sausage sandwiches and 2 prawn sandwiches for the 4 of us.Absolutely no complaints about the food was very good. The father-in-law came back 2 days later when they went for a walk around the lake in Keswick and he had lamb shank. A steak pie was also ordered for the other member of the party. I'm told that the food was absolutely fantastic. We would all recommend this place if you're passing.

Great (and very generous portions) of lovely food. Very welcoming and friendly service in a cosy, traditional village pub.

A good place to visit and eat. Finely cooked food and a good selection of beers etc from the bar. Pleasant and attentive staff who serve the meals and behind the small bar. The eating areas are clean and very tidy. Tables and chairs are sanitised between customers. Toilets are also immaculately clean. Plenty of sanitisers, scattered about, entrances, toilets and dining areas. Car parking free but a bit limited for spaces. This is a welcoming place to visit, after a long drive. Would recommend.

What a lovely setting for a pub. The food was stunning. Good choice, great taste and excellent service. Our group of eight were full of praise for the quality of food and hospitality of the staff.

Absolutely delicious food, but be warned - portion sizes are rather large (the famous Whale is getting on for whale-like proportions!). It really does taste all homemade and the vegetables are so tasty and fresh. The tomato sauce/relish in particular was amazing!
