Sunday morning breakfast….A drive out and a brekkie was the order of the day. Weather it’s staffing issues or something else the service was pretty slow. Order of two Scottish breakfast and two eggs Benedict with coffee all round. 40 mins later the food arrives all eggs are over cooked not a runny middle to be seen. The haggis was soggy and the toast was under done. For the privilege of this debacle we got a bill for £65. Way overpriced for the quality of the food. Staff were made aware of the issues but no recompense was offered. We have eaten dinner here before without issues so might give it another chance at some stage

Good location, friendly waiting staff. The food is same as any pub, good menu. The drinks are exactly as you would get in any bar, plenty options. Not impressed with 2 king halved prawns for ÂŁ11 for the taco starters, not even at wholesalers you would pay that for profit. Table needed cleaned and one of the mains had to be sent back. Overall it tasted good. My family like the relaxed atmosphere.

Have come here several times (Sundays) and truly mean the following as constructive feedback. The food can be quite varied in quality - soups are generally good and the chicken pie (itself) was good. The burger is often very dry, the mashed potatoes are dry and cold, the caesar salad came with cold fried chicken (vs grilled) and the chili fries were salted within an inch of your life. It's a lovely place and the staff are friendly so I'm hoping that the food itself improves.

Stayed at the Inn on our way through the countryside and found both the lodging and food to be wonderful. Called last minute to see if they could sit us for dinner and they set us up no issue. Started with amazingly fresh oysters, a delicious gin drink “Southside Fizz” and a Scotch sampling. Dinner was equally delicious, we had the mussels and linguine. Mussels were cooked perfectly, clearly a place that knows their seafood well.Breakfast was equally pleasing with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and an eggs Benedict. Service remained welcoming and efficient. Would love to return one day to the Sun Inn!

The staff were really friendly, welcoming & accomodating upon arrival & during our meal, top service. The meals were deeelicious. I had fish pie, didnt look much but was filled full with chunks of fish & was an ample helping. The small fish & chips was a good helping with the best chunky chips we'd been looking for, and the sea bass was perfectly cooked too. The deserts are not to be bypassed, presentation was superb & the flavours were equally as appealling. Although a wee bit pricey, I wouldn't be worried about recommending this place to eat.

Had breakfast here this morning, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. It wasn’t that busy at 10 o clock and the service was pretty fast. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were excellent, quality ingredients and a pretty big portion size. Good value for money. Coffee is really nice in here and scones are lovely, huge aswel. The only down side was the room temperature through in the back modern part,It was a bit chilly. But to be fair it was freezing outside and I did just have a T-shirt on.It was a shame to walk past the roaring log fire and then be quite chilly I would have sat longer and had another coffee if I was round the other end. However the foods always good in here, easy the best value for quality food in the area in my opinion. 👍🏻

Not been to The Sun Inn since the 1980 when I lived in Newbattle Abbey Crescent & 1990! I preferred the old place for food but the decor is nice, staff were great and very polite in greetings customer's! No complaints about service! Menu doesn't really have much choices! We had the fish and chips but didn't like potato skin chips and fish wasn't great with no taste! Mushy peas I've had better! We finished the fish but left chips and peas! Will go back and give it a 2nd chance one day tho! I've heard it's good for breakfast and coffee and cake maybe try that next time!

Wow what a place. The food was amazing and the service brilliant. We had a family celebration dinner and had 3 courses with drinks first. I had Draught beer which was delicious. My daughter had a cocktail which she loved. Our food was delicious and our server tried extra hard to make sure we were happy. We are about to book again for the family and visitors. Well done Sun Inn!

Service was slow the food was very disappointing I have been eating here for last 8 years and will not be eating here again sat in the cold back room not by roaring fire the pig on the plate was lovely in parts but some really dry pork the steak meal was awful very thin and dry no flavour the chips were tasteless the bread was charged at ÂŁ9.00 and consisted of 3 very dry rolls with a very sour taste and tinned tomatoes with herbs put into a copper pot. This hotel must have changed hands it's so awful now not worth ÂŁ95.00 for two people
