I had great hopes for this hotel, supposedly 3 star. Even the doors to the bedroom are deceivingly promising. As soon as you step the other side be prepared to be horrified. The bathroom, no towel rail even by the sink just the rawl plugs where it should have been (I was told to hang them on the rear of the door), mildew/mould all over the sealant, ceilings water stained, rusty fittings, layers of dust, old dirty stained linoleum, light fittings not working. In the bedroom furniture stained, carpets stained, huge gap under the bedroom door which gives fire safety concerns, mismatched furniture. When I contacted the reception I was curtly advised they have no other single rooms and that they were fully booked all weekend. When I asked if the faults could be resolved I was then rudely informed that the reason the room was so cheap was because it was this horrific standard. There is no warning or caveat about this when you book on the website, no photos etc. What a horrific attitude to paying guests. I booked back in January 2022 and believed the value was in booking early not substandard living in covid times. Had I known I would never have booked here. Only wish I’d have booked through a third party to raise a claim as clearly the staff here do not care. Having written the associated review about the horrific standard of the single room I was expected to stay in risking my own health and safety the owner came and knocked on my door and informed me this was her home and she asked me to leave. This appalling customer service is a growing theme from the owner. A short drive to a local Travelodge which is cheaper, cleaner (I know that’s not difficult), with superb customer service was definitely the best result. Maybe a visit from The Hotel Inspector would do the Troutbeck a favour.

Just had the pleasure of overnight stay and a fabulous evening meal and breakfast. What a lovely couple that own and run. The room was immaculate clean and very comfortable. We felt very welcomed here. It's in a beautiful location. Really can't say a bad word at all and highly recommend, great location, fabulous food, immaculate room, friendly hard working owners. We would definitely stay here again.

Can’t rate this place enough! Booked one night as I originally had a campsite booked but the weather was awful so decided to have a night in comfort.Owners are the loveliest couple, the room was really nice and comfortable, food and service was wonderful and of course being dog friendly myself and Claude had a fantastic stay! Will definitely be back again next time I’m up in the Lakes.

A truly wonderful place to stay. The owners are absolutely lovely and cannot do enough to help. Rarely been welcomed as I was here. Perfect.

Stopped at the cottages attached to the inn, not much to look at for the outside. But inside the standard of decor was to the highest level, and very clean. A little gem of a place to stay and unwind, really enjoyed our time here.

Perfect stay!Great location, lovely staff. Tasty food 👏The room size was quite good, seen some complaints so got a pic. WiFi connection might be improved a bit, poor signal in the room, good signal in the restaurant.

Small Inn with self catering lodges. Food pretty good with a limited menu but always decent specials available. Attentive staff member and food served quickly. This place is always understaffed with what seems to be just one server apologising for service and cancelling bookings. I would recommend to telephone to book a table or to see if they are closed due to staff shortages

Wonderful little place to stay. Nicky was a superstar and couldn't do enough for you. The food was exceptional and the location is perfect. We will definitely be back

Staying for the weekend at the B&B across the road. We had booked a table of six for Friday evening and a table of eight for the Saturday. We were contacted a couple of days before cancelling our booking for the Friday due to staff shortages. We were able to get booked into the White Horse at Scales three miles away, which was very, very good indeed. We however decided to go back to the Troutbeck Inn at about 20:30 so our drivers for the evening could have a drink. On walking in it was very quiet, had a very strong smell of fish and also had what looked liked locals camped out on bar stools across the bar, seemingly blocking the way to the bar. We were then told by the owner?/co-owner?/manager? that they had stopped serving drinks. I think the food we saw being cleared away was probably residents having being fed and we non residents had been cancelled for food service.Back outside I then called the White Horse and booked for eight next evening and cancelled the booking here - we had an excellent experience at the White Horse once again.Things you learn in hospitality (I know) - be kind to your customers - be friendly, don't alienate them whatever is being thrown at you - don't put up barriers - at least apologise if things are not working out. Stuff happens, but don't reject custom without extending a hand of friendship for the future!

We only called in for drink on our way back towards Penrith, tables were mostly reserved but lady got us one to sit at, as we weren't stopping to long, drinks fine, pub clean and fresh and friendly service.
