Please like if helpful👍Interesting old pub with the building dating all the way back to 1688 with vaulted cellars for dining. Great service and really good fish and chips although a bit on the expensive side at £14 there is a cheaper lunch menu but but all day. Very close to Lancaster castle.

We came here 7 years ago, and decided to come back! We were not disappointed, the food was lovely, we had a deli platter & chips, with a bottle of Voigner. Joel was very friendly, helpful and we loved chatting with him. Jade was lovely too

Absolutely love this place, very cozy inside, the food is amazing & the staff were excellent 👌 I had the pink roast beef on ciabatta with chips & my wife had the fish & chips with peas, both meals were excellent & I would highly recommend.

Probably a good place if you want to show off that you are posh. Everything about this place just screams 'pretentious'. For £10 you get a measly portion consisting of three scallops and an awful lot of lemon gel which makes the dish taste like acid. The French onion soup was served with a side of budget Aldi wholemeal bread which instantly fell apart upon contact with the soup, bit of a joke really. I am sorry but I will not be returning.

Lovely place ❤Very nice and stylish interior testy food, great friendly and helpful staff. Just wish they could bring it back to the menu beef burger 🍔 as it was the best that we ever had 🤤

This is one of the nicest pubs I have been to. The venue is just wonderful and it is steeped in history, which I love even more. I loved the fact that it is an old wine cellar that's been converted into a pub/restaurant. The food was fabulous too and would definitely recommend this as a place to visit even if it's for just a drink!

A bit disappointingly bang average. We went there for wine on a Saturday night and the wine selection was pretty boring (at least the options by the glass) so we had a French 75 cocktail which wasn’t good. The music was pop songs from 2000s which was an odd choice. Nice to be under the arches though.

An excellent, friendly and all round top-class pub! We enjoyed our Christmas meal in one of their beautifully decorated tunnels - the table was set so well with an obvious eye for detail and the atmosphere with the lovely Christmas tree was perfect. The meal was everything you'd expect from a top-class restaurant and they catered for all our groups various dietary needs! The staff were great too! Although some of our colleagues were nervous about holding a staff Christmas meal during these COVID times, their worries vanished after we were looked after so well. Thank you Merchants!

Came across this pub accidentally just wanting a drink to while away time then decided to stay on for a meal as the place looked so cosy and the staff accommodating.. The plus bonus was the couple of vegan selection on the menu that we went back the next day to try the other. The tables were very well spaced out with areas separate for just drinking and diners. But to make reservations to secure table . Menu selection limited but food presentation and taste worth the wait and serving staff very attentive. Just for extra info, toilets are located a floor above.

This has always been a great spot for food, and after coming back to visit a few years later, I'm glad to see it's still just as quality as I remember. Had a fantastic meal here the other night, strongly recommended to anyone after good food in a great pub.
