We celebrated Lunar New Year at the Hunan restaurant: simply amazing!!!Food, from a very wide & rich traditional menu, was exquisite with very generous portions; atmosphere and ambiance are very welcoming with everyone at Hunan, from Managers to waiters, making your experience unique and unforgettable. Definitely going back soon, with more friends, as I want more people to know and enjoy this great restaurant at the heart of Chinatown. 谢谢

In my opinion, the BEST Chinese restaurant in Manchester based on flavour, seasoning and taste. I have recommendations for some of my personal favourite dishes at the bottom of this review, and I have dined at this restaurant many times over the years.Many of the dishes are cooked and prepared in the very authentic Hunan cuisine style, which is one of the best and most fragrant spicy cuisine styles in and from China. Service, cleanliness and setting of the restaurant are all good too, but the food itself is especially fantastic and really sets itself apart from any other Chinese restaurant in Manchester!This is coming from a Chinese person who has grown up going to many different Chinese restaurants and eaten Chinese food all his life. If you like authentic, aromatic, traditional spicy Chinese flavour and cooking (which is on another level to the standard spicy cuisine you find at most other Chinese restaurants), then this is a restaurant you need to try. Their best dishes are spicy (sometimes very spicy for some people), but are bursting full of aroma, flavour and taste rather than just simply having a lot of heat and spice and are prepared by authentic Hunan chefs who have a high level of rare expertise in this style of cuisine.If you just want the standard and tame sweet and savoury flavours preferred by most westerners and Cantonese, just go to one of the countless Cantonese restaurants you can find in Chinatown or get a standard Chinese takeaway, this restaurant isn't for you. If you want the spicy, aromatic and bold flavours of traditional Hunan cuisine as described above, then this is the best and one of the only restaurants locally you can find this at. A lot of their dishes can have the meat substituted between pork/beef/lamb as well.Amongst many others, some of my favourite dishes which I also recommend are 6.8 Countryside Style Green Chilli Stir-Fried Pork, 6.10 Fried Preserved String Beans with Pork Mince, 7.1 Tender Lamb Belly (Clay-Pot dish), 13.9 Stir-Fried Beef/Lamb in Cumin, 13.11 Boiled Beef/Lamb Slices in a Fiery Sauce, 13.14 Dry Fried Diced Spring Chicken with Chilli.Good prices for the quality, portion size, uniqueness and excellent flavour of the dishes. This is a restaurant you would want to come back to regularly and try out new and different dishes. This is my personal favourite Chinese restaurant and I will continue to be a regular, which I have been for many years. 5/5 wholly recommend!

Recently visited for an excellent lunch. The chairman mao's braised pork was really good, but the countryside style green chilli pork was the star of the show - one of the best Chinese dishes I've had in a very, very long time.The staff were efficient and attentive, and the prices were reasonable. A delicious lunch for two including soft drinks came to £30. We'll definitely be back!

I ordered the chicken gizzle and sea bass. Both tasted amazing. I highly recommend the chicken gizzle very tender and full of flavour. The restaurant itself is very nice with a warm atmosphere and the staff are excellent. Overall I had a good experience. Not 5 due to price being quite expensive. I recommend for special events.

Great chinese food.. the last photo of crab we could not finish as we don't know exactly how to eat that. But, whatever we could was extreamly delicious
