Ply in Manchester

SO....low review as I asked the bartender if they had any non alcoholic drinks to which he replied "this is a bar, not a church" in a very patronising way. I was actually disgusted by his reply. There was hardly any people in the bar yet took them ages to serve not just me but others too. All they do is talk to each other whilst people are waiting to be served! Do better Ply!

Went for brunch, ended up having pizza and it was spot on! 👌🏻 Friendly, welcoming staff and a great atmosphere. Ideally placed in the Northern Quarter and somewhere I could happily spend the day on the slosh

It's been quite a while since I've been at Ply and I have to say I was disappointed. The pizza is still decent - although not nearly as good as nearby Rudy's. However, the sides were either not available (seriously, the 3 most interesting ones we tried to order first, arancini, squid, shrimp) or disappointing: the sausage and the olives were not good themselves, but they came with a stale focaccia. When I say stale, it was quarter piece and from how hardened it was you could tell it was cut at least a day or two ago... What happened guys?

AVOID IF COELIAC OR GLUTEN FREEAwful experience. PLY actively advertise they offer gluten free (GF) pizza. I have also dined here before and ordered GF with no issues. Decided to return with friends and after asking what was GF I was told all pizzas can be made GF.When my order was taken the first pizza I tried to order I was told cannot be made GF, I tried to order another pizza, but again I was told that pizza can't be made GF either. Finally ordered my third choice of pizza. Two mins after our order was taken a supervisor came over to the table and said they cannot process my order and serve me as I am a coeliac. They said the cross contamination risk was too great and if I were to 'eat here and die' PLY could be sued and the chef could lose his job. I challenged this and said I understand/ accept the risk. After a while of back and forth challenging the decision and stating that I accept the risk, I was REFUSED service of ANY food. The staff completely lacked compassion or understanding and just wanted me gone.

Been here a hell of a lot when back in Manchester and it’s one of my favourites… the dough is just so fresh, menu has loads of variety! The whole place - decor, staff, customers is just really cool and they do a fair bit of craft ale!! What’s not to love… get this on your list if you are in Manchester…It’s also surround by some of the coolest bars in Manchester to drink in!! WINNER WINNER

So. The reason for this low review is due to the fact that the food was average. And that there was a problem when paying which lead to what seemed to be the manager getting annoyed and thinking we were robbing the place telling us not to come back, after having some ‘witty banter’ saying oh guess we won’t need to pay then as a clear joke. And then discussing with the colleague that we were embarrassing. The food was average. Pizza came within 1min of ordering. And the other meals came 25 mins later . The pizza toppings all slid off when eating it. Pasta was alright. Safe to say I won’t be here again it’s not worth the time or money .Fair enough staff might be under pressure, I do understand it. But to make your costumers feel angry when they leave isn’t on.To sum it upStaff unfriendlyPizza sloppy.Takes ages to get your orderIf you like pizza go to crazy Pedro or anywhere else for that matter just don’t even walk into this establishment.

Disappointing. Seen good reviews about Ply but it really didn’t live up to expectation.Staff were very friendly and welcoming and we didn’t have to wait long for a walk in.However the pizzas we ordered were just not good at all. They were absolutely soggy on top which caused the topping to completely slide off when you picked up each slice. This was a particular shame because the dough was really nice.Unfortunately Ply also has its music way too loud too. I appreciate that it’s important to set a ‘vibe’. But I also want to be able to hold a conversation with the person sat opposite me at the table without having to shout.

happy with our visit - portobello pizza was larger than i expected, pasta (pesto tagliatelle) was rly nice :) loved the flat white coffee too! nice space, friendly staff and quick service

Fantastic! What a find.Came across Ply whilst browsing the outdoor craft market (well worth a visit)Went in with my son for coffee and ended up returning for lunch. Delicious coffee and a really mouthwatering menu. The beef pappardelle was amazing and full of flavour and I'm not really a pasta fan! One of the best tasting things I've eaten.The nduja linguine was equally as filling and flavoursome. Cheese topped garlic bread was stunning also.Our excellent waiter (didn't catch his name) was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly . Sadly he said it was his last shift and was leaving but was very knowledgeable about all the dishes. The waitress was equally helpful and friendly.Prices were very reasonable and a great background soundtrack too!. Couldn't fault anything.Really looking forward to another visit(or 3!) next monthDefinitely 6 stars out of 5. Well done.

Decent selection of pizzas and beers in the centre of the Northern quarter. A good alternative to Rudy’s or Franco Manca. Hard to spot the ‘Ply’ sign coming in though, so be sure to ask you’ve got the right venue
