Went for the Sunday lunch and it was an interesting experience. The person that seated us was lacking in any form of enthusiasm at all and looked underdressed for the style of the restaurant. The waiter that took our order was overly familiar and sat down at our table whilst taking the order which the entire party agreed was not normal. The waiter that brought over our starter clearly didn't know what was on the menu as he announced our starter of calamari as "here's some onion rings for you boys". The main course roast was average with quite chewy and fatty beef. The chicken was a small portion for one of us. The win that was included in the price of the meal was particularly watery (the red wine). Overall we agreed that the price did not reflect the food or service at all and we wouldn't be going back there again.

We have just had an excellent 3 course Sunday lunch here, served in a restaurant with a wonderful ambience created by a very attentive staff for the princely sum of £45 ( for 2) including a bottle of good wine! Highly recommended.

This hotel was very clean and rooms are beautiful. The staff were very friendly and even welcomed us with a glass of prosecco which I thought was a lovely touch. We would definitely stay here again. I never leave reviews usually unless I'm impressed.

The room was amazing, the staff were lovely and the bar was really nice. The one thing stopping this being a 5* review is the restaurant. Had I have read the previous reviews on here beforehand I wouldn't have bothered. We were only one of 3 occupied tables and out or our 2 meals they managed to get one completely wrong and missed things off the other. I ordered a chicken dish and they brought me a chicken curry, my partners meal arrived, minus the sauce that was advertised on the menu and he ordered chunky chips and got fries. I was told that I could have the original dish I ordered but it would be another 30 mins so I settled for the curry. They then brought us the wrong bill and when ours came they had knocked my drink off the bill in recompense. As it was only a coke anyway my partner renegotiated the bill. Reading the reviews on here the hotel really need to up their game with the restaurant service. The staff were pleasant enough and the food was quite good so it's a shame really.

The worst hotel I have EVER stayed in. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. We were charged near enough £400 for 2 nights of hell. Bar underneath plays loud music all night long. Not even loud, unbearable vibrations through the room. It actually feels like the bar and music is inside the room. People screaming and throwing up can be heard till about 4 o’clock in the morning. You are given a 24 hour WhatsApp service that no one replies to. Staff beyond weird - do not greet you, do not ask about your stay. It’s almost like they already know how awful it is so they don’t bother to ask. Room is dirty, tea and coffee but no milk. There is nothing about this hotel experience that is worth £50, let alone £400. You will seriously regret spending money on this place. Ruined our entire trip. Bed was also completely smashed apart and broken - was like it had been brought in from an alleyway round the corner. Horrific.

Often when we go to Canal Street, we just want quick food before we start on the beer. However, on Saturday, we couldn't get a table elsewhere so headed into Velvet. We're so glad we did! Lovely food, good service and a very civilised dining experience. It's nice that the Brasserie is separate from the bar so we weren't shouting over loud music or competing with the pub crowd for space. This might just become our regular haunt for food on Canal Street.

Disgusting service, called to book a table and was told to head down no problems. Got there and was then told that the kitchen was closing in an hour and could only have a main (chicken). The attitude was terrible, felt as though we were an inconvenience. Perhaps this could have been communicated to us prior to arriving.

Just checked out of room 25 and had an absolutely amazing stay! Staff are friendly, my partner must have mentioned we were here for my birthday and were greeted with a complimentary Prosecco when we got to our room. That was really lovely, the hotel rooms are wonderfully decorated and honestly I had one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a hotel. Would definitely come back for another stay

I never normally leave reviews when unhappy but couldn't miss that one because of how bad it was. We had the worst restaurant experience last night. The waitress (I believe she was the host) who was serving us got the entire order wrong and after kept coming to us to advice something was missing. On top of it we had to wait for about an hour for the drinks and one of our beers didn't arrive at all. We also had to wait absolute ages for staff to collect our plates after our starters and also waited really long for our mains. Worth mentioning the place wasn't very busy . Overall really bad experience

The beginning of the stay was brilliant- until the next morning, where we found out there was no water. Couldn’t brush our teeth, couldn’t go to the toilet. When we reached out to the staff, they let us know that a pipe had burst in the night. We had to check out early as we couldn’t wash or tend to our hygiene- no alternatives were offered, or gestures of goodwill. We paid a lot for the room, and even though I’ve emailed/called, nothing has been done. I understand that these things can’t be helped- but we were left to discover ourselves that the water was gone, even though they knew in the night that this had occurred.
