Maharani Restaurant in Preston

Had a heart warming dinner. All the items we ordered were authentic and really tasty. A must go place for a South Indian- Kerala delecacy.

This was a really good authentic Indian Meal and definitely one of the best I’ve had. The servers are also very kind and treat all the customers with great care.

Literally fell upon this lovely family run business!! The staff, service and food are honestly second to none!! Please visit!! Had the most incredible food and will definitely be a regular. One of Preston's gems!

Maharani restaurant run by Head Chef Joby is a great place for an authentic South Indian experience. Chef Joby has been part of many 5 star establishments and at Maharani quality is paramount to him. Do not expect the watered, bland curries served at some restaurants. Here you get flavour packed armoatic dishes that serves justice to true South Indian cooking. My favorite dishes include fish polichathu, beef fry, chicken peralan, chilly chicken, chicken tikka, kerala parotta, biryani and Masala dosa. Everything is freshly prepared and takes 15-20 mins, acceptable for the taste and effort. For a South Indian foodie this was truly nostalgic and I have always had agreat experience. Great place👍

I was visiting Colchester and didn’t really know where is good to eat and I’m glad I visited this place. The food was delicious and the staff were all so lovely and welcoming, I just really enjoyed my experience here.

BEWARE OF HIDDEN / INFLATED PRICES WHICH YOU MAY MISS!Pro’s: The food quality I couldn’t fault. Everything was as I would have hoped, tasted great and was piping hot.The people service were friendly.Con’s: The biggest con was the disagreement me and my friends had with a hidden cost of egg rice. We just asked for egg rice like you would pilau, but they charged us £7.50 each! (For which they vehemently blamed us and pumped up the prices they tried to say we ordered) they claimed no person has ever asked for egg rice so they ended up charging us for special fried rice (because not everything can be on the menu, so the owner told us) but didn’t care to tell us she was about to serve us this special £7.50 rice instead of a standard £2-3 rice which you always order with your meal. So you’d end up paying the same price for rice as you would a chicken curry, bizarre. Never heard of this kind of pricing.What was astonishing is how she tried to blame us for not reading correctly and not understanding how her “unique” restaurant worked - maybe she meant by the way of hiding costs and items so you feel embarrassed so you pay for expansive rice. Which they deemed had more species and was larger - it was the same size as it was served in the same rice bowls. She never wanted to admit her fault or try explain any mix up, it was all our fault and we should pay no matter what.I won’t go here again as you can clearly tell as it was embarrassing to be told, as grown men, how we don’t have a clue how pricing is done, in their specific restaurant, and they didn’t once try solve the situation. Seeing £15 for two normal pots of rice is not how I wanted to spend my money - I am the first to think this, as she told me persistently. It was a “me” problem.

Service was a bit slow, decor was about tired but the food was 100% spot on! Group of 5 people ordered different starters and mains and not one complaint. Would eat there again!

4 stars for the place the atmosphere and for Cobra beer. It was the first time I tried Indian food, therefore I have no clue whether it was good or bad. I personally liked everything I ate and especially the papadan with all the sauces. The naam bread was very nice as well.

What I liked-Food- Paratha was good. Beef fry had average taste. Beef curry was too spicy and average taste though apparently another customer told us that they usually ask desired level of spice. We weren't asked anyway .For Indians, I would say the curries did not have that authentic flavour.Has parking space.Decent seating space.What I disliked- Waiting time is atleast 30 minutes. Would not suggest to visit when you are really hungry. Had only 2 people to attend, take orders and serve so had lot of delays. My friends wanted to have a drink while waiting for me to finish as I had joined them late but did not get it served till I finished my food. So had to cancel the order.They told they have lot of take-aways hence the delays but that is not truly acceptable.
