Melvilles Fish & Chips Bar in Salford

Hi, a first visit to Mother Hubbard's, the fish, chips and mushie peas looked really good. They were perfectly cooked, with a generous portion of everything. But, the seasoning of salt was just right, not to much not to little. Then, the vinegar It was terribly SWEET!!! It was even too sweet for me, and I've got a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe. Pity really because it spoiled what was going to be a good lunch.Regards Graham.

1st visit 24th Dec 2021: Glad to find Old Mother Hubbards in my locality. Well still 15 min drive. Really good fish and chips. Drove home and curry sauce was missing along with fish bites. Called them up whilst driving back they ran out of curry sauce. Got to the store they prepared the curry sauce for me. They redeemed themselves 👍🏼. Would have been 4-5 stars easily but there's 30 minutes of my time and fuel got wasted and my 5 year old niece who had no food until i returned. Other than that definitely recommend as i can't knock the food.2nd visit 07th Jan 2022: Generally good, issues I had were I asked for a knife n fork and the server stated they're at the bottom of my bag. Are you sure I asked, she said yes it is. Arrived at my final destination and no knife and fork. Yes I want salt and vinegar, not all on my fish and nothing on my chips.. Amateurs. Last one Facebook page I messaged a query on 25th Dec 2021 and still no response to this date. I also message the Oldham branch who have responded and to my surprise on the same day. Originally gave 3 stars but sorry reduced to 1. Bossman who owns this franchise not sure what you're doing but sort it out.

Had fish bites and chips with tub of mushy peas. I only just found out this place had opened at Salford as a friend was there shopping and mentioned the smell so I sent partner to get us some and wasn’t disappointed fresh and lovely not greasy and proper traditional English chippy type. Definitely recommend

Went tonight and was really impressed with the quality of the food. Staff are friendly the portion size for the price is really good, only reason for the 4 stars is that they don't serve hot drinks otherwise it would be 5 stars all the way. Hope it gets used and stays open unlike other stores that have been and gone....

Had fish and chips a few times have been excellent both times well cooked and fish is much larger than expected have had a special fish and chips with scraps not managed to eat a full portion yet though have tried :) would definitely recommend

The food was ok and well priced, but I would not recommend anyone with a baby/young child visit. Out 2 year old had an accident while eating in there today, only to be told there is no nappy changing facilities. This meant we had to change him on a cold and dirty toilet floor.

Decent fish and chips.Good serving size. The price was a little dear at £6.95.Salt and vinegar was free but not sauces.Staff friendly and place keptClean.

Tried it again after a very disappointing first visit and sadly not much better. Looks OK at first sight but for me it's not right, everything is just a bit "soggy". You should be able to pick a piece of fish up and it hold itself but definitely not here, also the fish as a unusual taste?? Chips seemed a bit undercooked. Its a nice place, not bad priced but like most chippys nowadays they just let themselves down. I won't be trying it for a third time.

Very nice and fresh food with decent sized portions. The place was clean and staff were super friendly. It was just a little cold to sit in but apart from that would recommend.

Amazing fish and chips, fish batter was nice and thick and crispy just the way i like it and the fish inside just melted in my mouth Deffinately recommended for lunch tea or dinner
