Lovely staff friendly to talk too, my partner nocked the her drink off the bar and they just cleaned it up and was happy to help her with a smile and the barmaid replace her drink for here free off charge and was refusing me to pay even that it was my partners fault, Staff you have is well worth keeping I would be proud to have staff like that

Walked in today and asked if we could get a table, the restaurant was half empty. The female manageress told us they where fully booked. We said we where happy to sit in the garden or the bar - she was very abrupt in saying she wasn’t serving food outside, so I confirmed we would eat in the bar. Her attitude absolutely stunk, huffing and puffing! She then said she could fit us in but we would have to sit in the bar. We confirmed this was fine - she then wanted my full name, address email and phone number to put into their system! I explained I didn’t want to give all my personal data to be placed on her database!! Only to receive nuisance emails and texts!!! The manageress threw her arms in the air all theatrical and pathetic. ‘Just leave it’ she said, I’m trying to do you a favour and fit you in!!! She then stormed off!!! If I’m in a restaurant I’m not handing over my full personal information!! It’s completely unnecessary. It was telling when a younger member of staff came over to us to apologise for the manageress comments and behaviour! We left and went to a local restaurant and spent £100 with them. We booked to go back next week! The female manageress is a horror! 👎🏻

We had a lovely meal here recently. Never been before even though very close to us. Ribeye steak and they served the bang bang chicken and chips as a main. The chips were to die do, triple cooked I think, we could have eaten a barrel load they were so good. Steak was cooked well, medium rare and had lots of flavour, bang bang chicken was lovely. Great cocktail selection and also a great non alcoholic selection too, great as we like the choice to not have alcohol but still enjoy a beer or cocktail. Staff were perfectly pleasant, overall good experience and would return

Returned for a 'benefit of the doubt' meal with the Wife, after a very disappointing Sunday lunch (stick with Toby. Trust me). No, the burgers are not 'fresh'. They are beef catering burgers (listed on the menu as a 'steak burger'???? Do they mean beef?🤔). Anyway, it wasn't eaten as it was a woeful attempt. The food here isn't great, and I've had better at other pubs in all fairness. However, it is a shame as it is a nice Pub. We will possibly return, but only for drinks. No, I won't bother....they take too long to arrive.I really can't see what the local 'poshies' see in the place. It's nothing special. Maybe they need to broaden their horizons and travel out of Melling. A short distance away....The Blue Anchor👍. Food 👌 Drinks 👌Want to know how professional the Management are?.............see the professional reply to the review😂👇So, my instincts were right. Thanks for your 'professional ' advice. I'll be taking it, no fear!***UPDATE*** Cowardly Management have removed their obnoxious reply. Enough said.

Horrible experience on Saturday with the jumped up little owner/manager. Called in at dinner time on a boiling hot Saturday and was welcomed by a deserted beer garden which should have set alarm bells ringing really but we got settled and ordered away. Anyway a couple of hours later and at least £70 spent on cocktails (which were decent tbf) and multiple tips given to the young inexperienced staff, the owner comes bouncing over demanding to know who the parent of the little girl is who's drinking a bottle of ribena which they do not sell. Explained that it was my friends daughter who had just literally popped in for two mins on his way home from the swimming baths to speak to me for a second. "Well put it on your bag please we don't sell ribena and thats how we pay our wages" 😳😳😳 . Couldnt believe my ears!! Rest assured we drank up and left sharpish. We were advised to go the blue anchor down the road which was absolutely heaving, compared to the empty horse and jockey, and what great advice it was! Properly trained staff (not kids so you can get away with paying them minimum wage), a proper safe play area (compared to the bouncy castle in the horse and jockey with a big dirty pool of stagnant water in the middle of it 🤢) and most of all a lovely warm welcome from all the staff!!AVOID.

Good service good food but lack of draught lagers. Only had 1 on draught. Bottles as well but not to my liking. Overall the food was good but drinks were a let down. Kids drinks too expensive also.

Great food but staff really do need some training. Three times on Saturday I saw them deliver a bottled soft drink to a table and not include a glass. And very slow to acknowledge you, its like customers are totally invisible.

Tonight we waited 1 hour for a waitress to take our order, waited a further 40 minutes for the food which I sent back hard potato's and veg. Usually the veg comes in a separate bowl like I seen on other peoples tables but tonight mine was all on the plate NO carrot and turnip NO cauliflower cheese and not much meat at all very disappointed in kitchen lack of care and attention wouldn't advise to go evening time as they couldn't manage the bookings terrible time keeping.
