Gillam's in South Lakeland

only £2.50 per pot of the house tea which was very good, i also managed to get around 5 cups out of it for that price. We also had rarebit, a jacket potato and quiche from here, the food was very good. small place but they do have an upstairs and the staff were lovely, couldn't do enough for us. little shop to the side as well which sells the teas and such.

I went for a job interview at Gillam's in an attempt to pick up some shifts after college. The owner wasn't keen on me from the start, and stated in an abrupt tone that the shoes I was wearing (black work shoes, as had been requested) weren't acceptable and I'd need to buy others to work in future, and proceeded to lecture me on how to address customers, even going so far as to say 'we don't say things like "hi", "okay" and "yeah", we use proper English, so it's "hello", "certainly" and "yes"'. He clearly had an appreciation for the English language, which is why he owned a tiny tea shop.At the time I had worked for years in a much larger and more successful cafe, so this requirement for the job seemed a little overbearing, but okay (or rather, "certainly") I thought.Well, after quickly running through the table numbers he had me serve a few local customers, who asked me who I was and I chatted to them for a minute or two, it was a pleasant change from the attitude I had experienced from the staff. However, after serving them, the owner brought me to one side and told me I wasn't suited for the role, stating "I don't think you would gel well with the local environment here." I left and didn't go back.I'm sharing this now as it has stuck with me for years as the strangest job interview experience I've had, and genuinely felt as if they didn't want good help, but had advertised and interviewed for it nonetheless.To the owner; thank you, I'm sure working under you would have been as unpleasant as this short experience in your dingy tearoom was.

Avoid!!! Refused to let me in unless I PROVED exemption. Discriminatory and illegal. Will be reporting them. Be warned Gillams you can be fined 9k for this behaviour. Your rules cannot override the law. Atrocious. Very rude about it too. Had a lovely welcome from the Hot Mango cafe around the corner. Go there.

My favourite cafe ever! Can always guarantee to get great dairy free food, and even refined sugar free cake! Lovely staff too. I'd be in here all the time if I didn't live 300 miles away, and a trip to visit my daughter isn't the same if we can't come to Gillam's.

Lovely atmosphere - friendly staff - great coffee. We will be back when we visit the area again.

What a gem. I really didn't expect to find anywhere that did non dairy milk never mind delicious vegan breakfast foods! I had tofu BLT. It was fantastic, the marinated tofu was top notch. Lots of coffee options. The shop next door is stuffed to the gills with delightful products and beautiful fresh veg. I only wished we lived closer.

A really personal place. Very good selection of teas and fine foods. The gentleman who served is couldn't have been more helpful and proud of his local area. Great free advice on local attractions and pubs! Always good to take local advice. Thank you

Popped in on our way through for a cup of tea and were so impressed by this gorgeous, quaint tea rooms. Staff were lovely, setting was gorgeous and food and drink spot on. Definitely recommend their famous tea! A lovely tea rooms.

Very nice meal had at this place. Normal sort of cafe type offerings such as tosties etc. but also some more comprehensive and experimental offerings such as Tandoori Jack Fruit Burger, which was epic.All in all very satisfied. There is a nice health food shop attached that offering amazing granola, and other delectables. Would have returned for 2nd meal but there were closed.

Lovely little cafe with pleasant staff.Had some lovely carrot cake and hubby had cream scones well sized portions. With a lovely chocolate with cream.
