TERRIBLE SERVICE. GO TO HENROCK INSTEAD.We organised a couple weekend away, planned all around dining at this Michelin star restaurant. We received an email regarding our meal that had been booked for months, saying it had been cancelled. The reason was "travel rules and staff shortages". First of all, there are no travel rules currently in place within the UK and second, isolation period is five days long meaning even if staff were off at the time of cancellation, they won't be by the time of our reservation. This meal was gifted to my girlfriend by me and all the other expensive aspects of our trip were no longer cancellable. Disgusting and unprofessional service from a supposedly high class establishment. AVOID.

As soon as you walk in the reception and feel the heat from the log burning fire you know that you're in for something a bit specialThere were four of us for the evening meal. It's almost impossible to describe how much we enjoyed the "taster menu" my Son and I had the "paired wine" option and the ladies started off without this option, one changed her mind after having a taste of one of the wines . We ate our way through the menu enjoying even things that we had previously avoided. All went well until the cheese course which was far too cold.We where the first into the resteraunt and last out! So that must say how much we enjoyed the experienceHowever the breakfast was a comedy of sorts. The toast Sent back as it was black my son sent the eggs back three times after asking for them 'Over easy' and I kid you not the whites literally ran off the plate. - Did this spoilt the experience? - Not in the slightest

Absolutely incredible experience enjoying the taster menu this evening @ HRiSHi @ Gilpin.Staff were incredible without ever being too formal. The venue itself has relaxed, classical feel.Fantastically balanced menu, and never felt like it dragged on too long like some restaurants offering taster menus.

Absolutely stunning restaurant within the Gilpin Hotel. Fully deserving of all the accolades it has received. The setting (especially at Christmas) is beautiful, the staff are superb, and the food is truly outstanding. My wife and I had the a la carte menu, which comes complete with canapés on our first night, followed by the tasting menu on the second night (my photos are of the tasting menu, apologies if they are a little dark, but it would have been rude to use the flash)!Suffice to say the food was absolutely exquisite and beautifully presented, the staff were knowledgeable about the dishes being served, and were professional and attentive whilst remaining discreetly in the background. All in all a truly magnificent dining experience which I cannot rate highly enough. Noone could possibly be disappointed eating here.

An outstanding restaurant however Gilpin Spice is much more vibrant and assault on your taste buds in a good way. Not so great was the power cut at our chalet, which took several hours to fix, next day no one at the HOTEL even acknowledged the event, no apology despite emails , disappointing as it ruined a great destination stay.

Ordered from the Plant Based menu, and was served 2 types of cheese in the first course. Not sure which plant goats cheese and parmesan come from?Waiting staff were excellent, but front of house seemed to want to blame us as they thought we were vegetarian! Even if we were vegetarian, we still ordered from the Plant based menu, so I'm not sure how they were confused.Made for a poor impression to start the night.Rest of the food and service was great but the first impression stood out, and really soured an evening that should have been memorable as a fine dining experience.

We spent 3 night's in a junior suite here. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The decor was country house with a natural theme with lots of plants and flowers. It was all spotlessly clean. The room was very comfortable and well equipped. When we asked for feather pillows they were brought with no fuss. The staff were very professional but friendly too. The food was the icing on the cake. We ate in both restaurants and the selection and standard of food was first rate. My husband has an allergy which was catered for with no fuss. There was perhaps one thing that I found annoying and that was the constant background music, but that is just a pet dislike! We will definitely return soon.

The afternoon tea was amazing, we sat in the lounge, right next to the fire which was lovely. Very comfy. The staff were incredibly friendly and happily got plenty of refills of tea and coffee throughout. The food itself was exquisite, one of the best afternoon teas we have had, had a lovely unique style to it.Would go again 😍

There have been so many versions of Great British menu I have actually stopped watching it. Apparently head chef Hrishi Desai used either all or some of this menu for his GBM entry. We actually came across the Gilpin hotel and Hrishi restaurant on the way back from a meal at L'enclume nearly a year ago and added it to the bucket list for next time we were up north. The food was fabulous. The staff friendly and helpful. The canapes and the waiting area comfortable and the hotel surroundings and car park immaculate. If they could improve anything, based on our other recent Michelin visits, they could definitely improve the mystery and presentation of the menus from a grey large A4 book, add some Nappa valley and Australia pinots and/or some more organic varieties to the extremely extensive wine list and definitely make a bit more spectacle of the coffee and tea course.I haven't posted photos of everything we had as don't want to spoil it if you are going. This is an extremely special occasion restaurant and if you have experienced Michelin dining before you will find the courses display a strong personality and certain moreishness to match the expected finesse and technical skill.Delighted with the Cumbria restaurant scene and will be back.
