Glenthorne Country House in South Lakeland

Very comfortable rooms and excellent meals. We stayed for a course of circle dancing for my partner and walking/running for me. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Fabulous accommodation, food and wonderful, most helpful staff. Very tranquil atmosphere. Situated on edge of Grassmere village (200 yards away)which is small but beautiful with much surrounding terrain to explore, either by car or great hiking terrain. Highly recommended 👌 👍

Not possible to fault! Spotlessly clean, nice staff with friendly service. Food was plain but well cooked. Lots of nice little touches like the ability to help yourself to tea and coffee from the hotel lobby, with a biscuit or even some chocolate! The grounds were pleasant to sit in with the possibility of spotting a red squirrel!

Excellent. Spotlessly clean, beautiful grounds, quiet, and very comfy bedding; I've stayed in more expensive places and not slept nearly as well! I've seen a few reviews criticising the food which aren't fair. If you're looking for exquisite food and a fancy place to luxuriate, this is not the place for you, but this is clearly presented as an unpretentious Quaker establishment! The food is simple, but excellently cooked;it honestly has the best full English that I've had for a while ie. decently cooked, isn't wastefully large, and isn't swimming in grease...! We were here for a swimming trip and the poached eggs were delicious. If you intend to actually get out of your hotel (as you should in the Lake District!!) and are simply looking for lovely service and people, good food,and a nice clean place whilst you enjoy the beauty of the Lake District, this place is a gem. Seconding the positive reviews about access to hot drinks and biscuits - if you're a hiker this is particularly valuable! As is the drying room.

I stopped here last week, for a couple of nights, with my teenage son and had a restful and pleasant stay. Grasmere is a great, central, location, for getting out and about in the Lakes. Glenthorne is a Quaker centre, offering B&B accommodation, with the option for half or full board. My son was happy with the WiFi, and I was glad to have a break from the TV. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the centre was clean and well maintained, and the full English breakfast and evening meal were good. Our room, with ensuite, was fresh, cosy and comfortable. I hope we find the time to come again and stay a little longer!

Very much enjoyed a peaceful week here with my family.Staff so welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.Rooms simple and very clean - they've coped with extra Covid-19 measures really well and it all felt very safe.The food was of excellent quality and variety and there was no problem catering for specific dietary requirements.My father is mostly in a wheelchair and access was good - with excellent new accessible bathrooms.Such a great location too - 5 mins walk from Grasmere yet surrounded by gardens and lovely views. A real haven.

A good place to stay in, great staff, good meal., you can have full board stay with sandwiches provided for lunch so groups stay here and go rambling or do activities provided with packed lunches, caters for dietary needs in impeccable way. In short great place to stay or even workshop as it has a meeting room which can be used. High recommended.
