Mason Arms in South Lakeland
Where is Mason Arms?
🏠 Strawberry Bank, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6NW
"The Masons is a Lakeland institution, an ancient inn lost in blissful country. You’re on the side of a hill with 15-mile views across a quilt of fields to Scout Scar; in summer, pub life decants onto a beautiful terrace – a sitting room in the sun – where window boxes and flowerbeds tumble with colour. The inn dates to the 16th century and is impossibly pretty. The bar is gorgeous, with low ceilings, wavy beams, flagged floors and roaring fires, then splendid local ales to quench your thirst."

We booked here as we were getting married in Crosthwaite so it was nice and local for us.After meeting with a few of our suppliers on visits before the day they mentioned how amazing it is and I can honestly say we were not disappointed at all.We booked four suites for four nights, for us and our bridal party, and each room was so beautifully decorated with great views.I must say I think Strawberry Bank was the nicest room and I'm so pleased we were advised to book that room as it was an elegant and relaxed space to get ready the morning of our wedding. We dined there two of the four evenings too, once as a group and once just the two of us and the food was divine. Breakfast every morning was a great touch!Thank you so so much for everything, you have no idea how blessed we feel to have stayed in such a beautiful location and have such great service on one of the most important days of our lives.Weve already booked another stay with you for our 1st anniversary and we can't wait. You were just incredible during our whole stay, we simply can't recommend you guys enough!!Photography by Jono Symonds 📸

Amazing food and service. We had Sunday lunch which was superb, lots of it. Salmon starter followed by roast beef and Eaton mess. Highly recommend

The limited menu was very tasty but we struggled to find something we liked after the second evening of a three night stay. Despite ordering breakfast the evening before for 0930, it was 1000 before my poached eggs on toast arrived. Stayed in the Cartmel Fell suite. Very nice apart from a couple of things. The bed was on the wrong wall. Because of the rafters it was impossible to sit up in bed(and read). The roller blinds was not working on the front aspect, beautiful views over the fells. There needs to be a curtain / blind in the glass front door to keep the garden light out. Had to drape a towel over the door. Apart from all this, the staff were very helpful and responded quickly to requests for more tea and coffee in the room. One final point, slippy baths. When I asked for a mat, I was told that they didn't have any and to use a towel. They did say that this would be brought up with management bur I'm not holding my breath.

Always warm and friendly. One of our favourite retreats on a winter's day. Cosy log fires, great food, good ale, what's not to like?

My absolute favourite pub! So warm and cosy, excellent food, and friendly service. Rooms are lovely as well, super comfy beds and amazing views. My husband and I came for our honeymoon and try to come every other year since. Also, such a huge bonus that they are so dog friendly, means we can go and take our walking partners too. Can’t recommend enough and cannot wait to go back.

Stayed here in the past when under previous owners always enjoyed it. This time just called in for lunch. I had the pie of the day (chicken and chorizo), it was very good, hot and tasty on a cold day and the chips were as good as any I've had. My wife had risotto and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to our next visit.

Poor service, drinks didn’t arrive even after a reminder. Chicken was too tough to eat but sauce was good. Couldn’t get a steak knife for the lamb. Took ages to get a dessert menu and then no one came to take order so we gave up and left. Starters were good and two of the mains were good.

Never dissatisfied at this lovely inn! Have visited several times over the years and this was our first time back post COVID. Food was fab as always and the staff are so nice, really friendly and welcoming. I love to try new places, but can never resist a visit to this spot. Dog friendly too, perfect!

My husband and I popped in at the end of our honeymoon on the recommendation of a friend - we were looking for the perfect Lake District pub lunch and we got it. Homely, with a roaring fire, personable service, excellent food and easy online reservation two days before. All for a good price point. A wonderful and fitting way to end a lovely week.

An outstanding little hidden gem of a place to eat. A sumptuous meal sat beside the open fire - Excellent staff who made sure we were looked after and the food was delicious. Excellent value for money and an all round excellent experience - when we visit again, will be most definitely book in!
