Great post walk drink at the Royal Oak. I particularly like activity area pubs where the bar staff engage you and talk... Full marks for great service. Good price to for a beer, wine and a couple of bags of crisps. Nice pint of Timothy Taylor. Very busy so to ensure others privacy I took no inside or outside photos but a classic town pub.

Great place to relax with your friends and family. Lovely food and a great selection of local beers. Highly recommend visiting this place.

We called in on the cuff for a pint after a fell walk we took a table outside. Very friendly staff and the 2 pints of Ruskins was excellent. The pub is very dog friendly with a water keg and bowl for the dog and a a very kind waitress even brought our dog some dig biscuits. We'll definitely go back when we have more time for a meal and a couple more pints if Ruskins 😉👍

Lovely traditional pub, popular with locals and tourists. Cozy & friendly with good food, especially the Hungarian Goulash.Good sized outside seating area covered by large parasols with infrared heaters for the colder weather. Our go to pub in Ambleside!

Lovely pub, very dog friendly so fantastic for any walkers with 4 legged friends, they sell a good assortment for dogs to keep them content while at your feet.Food is good, nothing outstanding.Gents bathroom is very amusing with the floor going all sorts of ways when you go in, definitely not the best after a few!It is a shame the app ordering does not work here and the hunters chicken breast was a bit small for my liking but very tasty.

Good pub with good beer. Always felt welcome going in here whilst on an annual week away to Ambleside. Prices dearer than most Ambleside pubs. Gents toilets always smell strongly and always have over the years, hence the 4 stars.

Really helpful and friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and great menu including vegan options

Had the chicken and mushroom pie, fantastic! My hubby had the goulash equally fantastic and the prices are really reasonable. Would definitely eat here again like a shot.

We visited this great little pub a number of times over a weekend in Ambleside. We were trying to go to other places but the charm of the Royal Oak kept calling us back. The small quirky building, friendly staff, smell of the fire, selection of drinks created just the right atmosphere, strangers chatted easily to each other and it was just lovely. To top off our visit, on Sunday evening there was live entertainment (a fantastic singer) who had no set list but engaged the crowd and let us choose what she should sing, gave out tambourines and maraca’s so we could all join in and really brought the place to life. We loved it. Definitely will be back and would recommend to anyone visiting Ambleside.
