The Drunken Duck Inn in South Lakeland

Very disappointed to have travelled here for lunch only to find that they weren’t serving food other than mushroom soup or chips. Also wouldn’t serve us coffee due to it being too time consuming to do so. Felt so sorry for all the cyclists who had taken a de-tour up the steep hill in order to grab a coffee and bite to eat only to find that their options were soup of chips!! 🙄

Went on Sunday, for the first time in a few years. Still think this is the best pub in the lakes by a mile!Very reasonable price for an amazing and unique menu. Food at Michelin star level! Beer was really good quality and brewed onsite.Attentive and relaxed service makes this a real gem of a place.

Such a gem of a pub! Menu Is small yet creative. The food we had was divine - wine was beautiful too. Really hope to visit on our next trip here.

Very impressed by the food and service. Had the stone bass - beautifully cooked and presented. Also has a microbrewery. Tried an excellent weiss beer. Great meal and the spacing of the tables and lightning means it has a low-key, intimate feel. I'll definitely be back.

Been for great meals for the last 4 years but can’t believe that can’t get in when bookings opened at 7pm , on ii bang on 7pm, gave 1 option of 6:15 but by the time I’d completed the mandatory form it was not available, same thing for 2 dates.

Lovely place but lacking the attention to detail for the price point.So for a nights stay we spent about £480 in total. We booked a Suite room with dinner & breakfast. The food, as you can see from the pictures, is presented well and the staff are ultra friendly.Bar area is welcoming and no dress code. Entirely up to you what to wear. Very relaxed atmosphere. Zero complaints in these areas.Where we felt it was let down is by silly details.We were the nigh on the first ones in the restaurant area, order our meals and the starters arrived without any problems. With the main courses however, we were the last ones to be served (an hour after our starters). It was only after everyone else had been served we were told there had been a problem in the kitchen.I understand that things happen, but notice that there was an issue or even a free glass of wine would have gone down well here. Now I am being picky with the following points, but again when spending nearly £500 for a night ... :The room we were in only had one working standing lamp, which made the room quite dark. It would be evident that the lamp wasn't working by the staff as they had prepared the room prior to arrival. (See picture).No tea / coffee offered in the room.There didn't seem to be any way to control the heating, some points it was roasting, some points were cold. I maybe couldn't find the thermostat.There seemed to be lack of maintenance. I get the the "relaxed vibe" but money is needing spent on the outside areas which would really elevate the look and feel. Just weeding would help!Overall nice place and lovely staff would stay again but overpriced for what we received.

Loved the open kitchen, food was tasty but needed more venison in the suet pudding. The chips were excellent but expensive at £5 for a side portion. Lovely staff and great ambience.

Sadly gone downhill; we stayed here last year and felt it was one of the best UK stays we've ever had. Unfortunately upon returning this year a lot of the charm has gone and corners cut to dampen the experience. The bath was rusty, the water pressure comparable only to a watering can, and whilst the food was great not as good as previous trips. The hotel also seemed to disregard Covid; we were amazed watching tables just be wiped down with a dry cloth and no anti bac! Unfortunately wouldn't recommend and would advise to stay elsewhere.

Walked 10 miles in the morning. Got there at 12.45 on Saturday. Only to be told they were not serving food in the bar due to staff shortages. Not acceptable. How hard is it to make sandwiches and rolls...maybe soup. This place is loosing sight of what a country pub should provide

You have to stay at the Drunken Duck. The food is sublime and they brew there own beer and gin. Accommodation is excellent too. Even had a tea brought to the room each morning. Plenty gluten free dairy free options. We were very lucky with the weather. Sunshine all the way. We will return.
