Great traditional pub with outside seating by the river Kent. What could be nicer on a sunny day. Popped in after walking along the river from Kendal. Can recommend the English stout and the 6.6 percent ipa. Will definately come back here for a meal. Photos over the river beside the outdoor seating area..

What a lovely quirky little watering hole surrounded by endless miles of green fields , fells and gorgeous views . The bars had an olde worlde feel festooned with lovely antique bric a brac. Pleasant welcoming staff , very fast service and lovely tasty food . Well worth popping in . Your loss if you Don't.

Characterful pub, the front beer garden is a beautiful location overlooking the river. There is a very good beer selection with local ales. I think they underachieve a bit with the food, nothing wrong with it but nothing really special. Great place for a pint after a walk. Dogs allowed

Stayed here after a day of walking at Braithwaite. To be honest, I wasn't expecting or even looking for much, but was really impressed with the warm atmosphere, excellent food, and selection of ales and beers. The breakfast was particularly tasty. The room we stayed in was very clean and recently decorated, and the service we received throughout our stay was excellent. Cracking stuff!

This is the second time I’ve been here and the food is not great! I asked for the local burger and chips. honestly deep fried burger and just a dollop of cheese and chips and that was it no salad where was the tomatoes or onions ?? Could make better myself. Oh and I forgot to say warmed up chips Very disappointed the beer was okay though thanks 😊

Got a warm, friendly welcome upon arrival. Great food that we didn't wait long for in spite of it being quite busy. Great atmosphere inside (quiet and unassuming on the outside). Went on speciality burger night (Thursday). Prices were pretty average for the lakes. If you go, I'd definitely recommend booking a table first.

This is a proper boozer with accommodation. Family run free house. Excellent beer, decent food, attentive service - great place with loads of interesting pictures / nik naks / interesting bits carefull dispalyed throughout the building. Roaring fires. Storage for mountain bikes. 100% worth a visit.

Wonderful, traditional country pub with great beers, nice wines and a welcoming open fire for you and your furry friends. Highly recommended.

Good choice of local ale and food served in a welcoming traditional Lakeland pub by friendly staff- even when accidentally punched in the face. We visited 3 nights in a row without tiring of the place, its food, drink, and certainly not staff. Loved it.

Had a fantastic stay at the eagle and child. Really great value and in a good location for exploring the south east corner of the lakes. Located about halfway between Kendal and Windemere. Top marks to the very friendly and hard working staff.The pub itself gives off that traditional village pub vibe while being equally as welcoming to visitors and guests. Super cosy inside and the rooms are just great for pub accommodation. Bag a seat by the real fire if you can. A nice selection of Real ales rotate alongside a few keg craft beers. Perfect to get toasty with by the fire or enjoy alongside one of the cracking meals.The fish and chips are fantastic. Even the small portion was generous, the batter was light and nicely seasoned. Breakfast is equally as satisfying with a nice selection laid out for all diets and with produce and meat coming from not far away, including the village butcher!If you are thinking of using public transport to travel to Kendal or Windemere i recommend taking the train. The station is close to the pub, the service is more regular, quicker and cheaper than the buses.
