The Engine Inn Restaurant in South Lakeland

Our second visit in 2 days, wishing we were staying longer, would happily work my way through the menu! Food is delicious and enough to satisfy the hungriest. Tonight we sampled the garlic bread with cheese followed by beer battered fish and chips, absolutely amazing food, thanks guys

Lovely quaint old building, full of character. Good choice of menu. Staff friendly and went above and beyond, knew thier stuff. Food was excellent piping hot and enjoyable

Just had a totally amazing meal here, highly recommended. The steak and ale pie is the best I have ever tasted. The staff are friendly and helpful.

I didn't think that the staff had much interest .The talk from the staff was about ringing a customer to tell them that there booking was cancelled later that day because they were closing. It was only lunch time Not sure what the issue is but it felt like they didn't want to be there. A shame as this was a great pub a few years ago.

Had a meal here this evening. The food was very good but have to say the service from Sam was excellent. Looked after us from the minute we walked. Would recommend anytime.

We booked a table of 8 whilst we were visiting the lake district to scatter my father in laws ashes, walking in it felt like we had walked into a typical pub where just the locals go for a drink, we wondered if we had made a bad decision......however the staff were very friendly and the food was some of the best meals we'd ever had, everything seemed homemade even the chips, the portions were such a good size too that none of us could eat any dessert, we will be visiting the lakes once a year from now on and will definitely be back to this pub!

Went for a meal as we had a fantastic experience 2 year's ago and if im honest we should of turned round and left the food was rubbish and the portions wouldn't feed a kid but if you were local then thats a different matter the same with the service it was shocking from not clean glass's to just genral bad mannersSo all in all if your not local go somewhere else 🙄

Walked in, looked nice but empty which is ok. Guy at the bar didnt even look up. Saw a sign for the restaurant so we walked through to find that it looked like it had been closed and not cleaned up. Walked back into the bar area and tried to get the guys attention to ask if they still did food but he wasnt interested and let us walk back out. Went to another pub up the road and had beautiful food. Its a real shame about the service here, as we were looking forward to trying the menu we saw online.

Not great experience unfortunately, room was quite small and the bar had a live act on that went on past 11 o'clock. Evening meal was average but breakfast was good.Wouldn't stay there again I'm sorry to say

It was supposed to be Bed and Breakfast but they Had no chef; which I was only told on arrival having pre paid for a week. The owner made no effort to make up for this and didn’t offer a discount. The room was not up to any standards let alone the one it was perceived to be online. There was an old Burger King bag behind the bed and no clean bin. Housekeeping was not done everyday which was also an alleged inclusion of this place. The excuse being there was no housekeeper. It was a very disappointing and disgusting experience . And I will be taking further action about this as it is not safe or hygienic for people to stay here.
