The Estuary in South Lakeland

We managed to get a table for4 + irritab toddler at short notice.We selected 3 different meals. All 4 meals were average at best. Not the tastiest of meals and only warm. .Asked locals the next evening to recommend somewhere to eat and all suggested the Estuary.Talking to guests from the same hotel that ate at rhe Estuary and had chosen2 of the same meals they had also had a similar experience and made the same commentsI would not return to the restaurent and would not recommend

Unfriendliest waiter ever!We went to The Estuary a couple of nights ago (on Thursday 26 May) as part of our visit to the very beautiful Grange over Sands . What a shame that this was our first experience of eating out in the area. The waiter is most definitely not suited to this profession, was unfriendly and made us feel utterly unwelcome from the moment we walked in. The food was good but the service means we will certainly not return, there are too many other good eating places around to have to endure 'service' like this. It is such a shame as the place is a real neighbourhood bistro and has great potential. Any work that the chef may be putting into creating an actually lovely menu is completely ruined by this guy who makes you feel like you've just massively inconvenienced him by walking in. We look forward to the many other places to explore in the area and hope that this feedback may change the experience of others in the future.

Our visit to the Estuary Bistro has been fantastic. They have beautiful decor and a very calming atmosphere. The dishes are tasteful and tasty. They surprised us with new combinations of flavours and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Marmite!!Having read some previous reviews, this Restaurant evokes strong feelings and had I taken the less than positive reviews in to account would probably not have booked.But from my perspective, we live in different times, my expectations are different now, so we gave it a go and given those expectations my verdict is acceptable if a little expensive.Service could have been slicker, however could not have been more friendly, I don’t mind informal, but I can see why folk might find it an issue given the prices charged, again different expectations on my part.The staff were there, showing willing, that surely counts for something these days, good for them!The food was nice, I’m not a Gravlax connoisseur, I enjoyed it. The hake was well cooked, the accompanying sauce very tasty. For dessert I opted for the chocolate mousse, very nice.Denise found her meal to be acceptable: Bruschetta (could have been less chilled), then haddock followed by crème Brulé tart.Nibbles upon arrival were excellent, Chipolata sausages and black pudding bonbons with apple sauce for dipping, yes please!If like us you enjoy wine throughout your meal, a pre-dinner cocktail, and a nice glass of dessert wine to round it all off, expect to pay a premium, as that’s where the money seems to go.It’s not fine dining, but it’s fine enough, I believe that Grange needs somewhere nice to walk to in the evening and from our hotel, what a lovely walk.As it’s marmite, you’ll need to visit to form an opinion, I’d visit again for sure, drink a little less, or not, what the hell!Different times.

If I could zero stars I would as 1 is too much.Arrived with my partner who has recently had a head injury resulting in brain surgery. This effects his balance and speech aswell as a visible scar.We entered with only 2 tables in the restaurant occupied. When we asked if we could sit the lady serving said they were fully booked.We went over the road to the lovely, more friendly, cafe where we had a lovely meal without discriminationWe walked past this cafe on the way back, and see still almost empty so was not fully booked at all.

First ever visit to this restaurant and the menu states they do a lot of gluten free, but what they don’t cater for is for any other intolerances to other things such as dairy.When they went and asked the chef they came back with no, ‘you can’t have anything, you can only have these 2 things’.I got the feeling they’ve basically done us off because the chef can’t be arsed to cater for one individual who has legit dietary needs which can cause major issues.To me, it’s the chefs laziness. Shame on you for not at least trying to cater for your customers.If you have dietary needs, stay well clear.

We visited for lunch and we loved it! The food was incredible, the staff were really friendly and the whole vibe of the restaurant was lovely. We're gutted that we don't live closer so we can't visit more often!

Dreadful lunch experience.Expensive and poor service.We met up as a family for the first time since the start of the pandemic, we had enjoyed our last trip to the Estuary prior to lockdown so thought this was the perfect place for the meal. Unfortunately this was the not the case.Every dish we ordered, from the quesadillas to the chicken burgers were so under seasoned, we had to heavily rely on the salt and pepper.The desserts we ordered, were dreadful. The cheesecake was deconstructed and looked remarkably like poly filler, it taste like it too.And the sticky toffee pudding was not like any sticky toffee pudding I'd ever had before. Orange and liquorice do not go with sticky toffee pudding, very unpleasant. Served with chocolate chip ice cream when the menu stated vanilla.When we raised these complaints with the waitress, she stated that she knew it was chocolate and not vanilla and that it was a shame we didn't like the food as they had received a large number of compliments.Unfortunately we will not be returning to the Estuary due to an over priced menu, poorly seasoned food and rude staff.

Tried to get a table a few days ago but were full. Booked a table online. A pleasant greeting when arrived . A delightful atmosphere , a good choice of drinks and food menus . Very friendly staff also efficient . Food very well presented and full of flavour. The desserts were glorious . A delightful evening
