Wow, that’s all I can say. Me and my husband called in today (6/3) and we were welcomed by a lady who showed us to our table. It was quite busy when we called in but they still found us a table. I had the lamb and the hubby had the beef. Lamb doesn’t come with a Yorkie but not really fussed as there’s plenty on the plates as the portions are so generous. We looked at the pudding menu but were too full to fit one in. Lovely atmosphere with friendly efficient staff and a very tasty roast dinner. Would definitely recommend this place.

Very strict on check in - not til 3pm but once we got in, the hotel was lovely. Staff were friendly. Rooms were nicely decorated and clean. We ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic - would definitely return

Very disappointed with the meal we had this Sunday lunchtime. The Staff, especially the waiter did their best and we’re patient but the food let the place down. During the hour it took to get our meal one of our choices was declared “off” so ordered another, a few minutes later that too was “off” and again the third choice was also “off”. My beef was stringy though the veg was fine but unfortunately not hotand couldn’t believe I was charged £2.95 for less than 100 millilitres of gravy, I have never been charged for extra gravy anywhere else. My husband chose risotto which came as a very small portion lost in a huge bowl, another of our party couldn’t finish her curry as her lips were burning. We are locals and came to check the restaurant before bringing some friends, but judging from today’s experience, we will not be returning.

Absolutely wonderful stay at The Gateway Hotel. Service from all the staff was superb. The room was exceptionally clean as was the en suite bathroom. The food at the evening meal was amazing, varied menu and well presented. Breakfast service was excellent. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely room, very cosy, great food. The only issue was with the 14 day rigid cancellation policy, we tried to change our dates by 1 day due to storm Eunice as advised by the Met Office to avoid non essential travel. The management wouldn't change our dates by 1 day (rooms were available), even for a family crisis and planned travel of 335 miles, they let us down.On the other hand the restaurant staff were brilliant certainly looked after us and food was great..

Had to wait ages to be seated. Was ignored when we arrived due to someone doing a stock take. Senior staff did apologise though. Lovely lady serving and very attentitive. Food was not great..... Souffle was under done on mine and burnt for my husband, husband had a burger and I had a second starter for main. Burger was very average and my scollops were slightly underdone and tiny for the price. Crazy price for very average food, there's so much amazing food in the lakes so not to sure how they can justify these prices. Would be good for a pint and fish and chips etc... If cheaper, but feel like it's trying to be something it's not! We went to Drunken Duck the day before for a meal and the price was cheaper and we had food and cocktails! Think they may need to look at what others are doing in the area....

We made an impromptu stop and stumbled on this hotel for a meal. We had a really lovely experience, tasty meals, cosy environment and caring staff. Highly recommended

The staff here are a real credit to this stunning hotel in a great location, they are welcoming, professional and seem to get the balance just right with making sure guests are happy, while not overdoing it, or intruding too much, you feel like you have the run of the hotel, but they are always on hand, the food is excellent, the rooms are clean, and the location is excellent. We really enjoyed our stay, and will definitely book again.

Full of character and very welcoming. Only stayed one night on our way home from Scotland but the room was decorated beautifully and fully equipped with toiletries a bath and a separate shower. Bed was very comfy. Bar was well stocked and the food delish. Staff were friendly and so helpful. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.

Booked in for a meal yesterday evening at the Gateway hotel, last minute booking. We weren’t disappointed, we had a fantastic meal, the steak and ale pie was amazing!A relaxed environment, with friendly staff, only saw two staff front of house and they were doing an amazing job to ensure there was no delays with drink and food orders. We will definitely return.
