The Good Sport in South Lakeland

This was without a doubt one of the best meals we enjoyed during our Coast to Coast walk. We started with drinkies made from local spirits (gin & tonic, screwdriver). They were delicious and refreshing. Then the meal, which was out of this world. I had the Catalan fish stew, with haddock, prawns, mussels and pancetta. My wife had a spaghetti bolognese made from local herdwick lamb. As the pictures show, we polished them off pretty well! To enjoy a meal of that caliber after a long day's walk is a most memorable pleasure. I know we will eat there again one day.

Excellent locally brewed beer and the food is fabulous. Ended up having breakfast and lunch here. Very helpful staff - including the manager. Good range of seating in and outdoors (you can even sit overlooking the river).

Booking is recommended; the pub was full when we visited (we had booked) and they were having to turn people away. It cost more than our usual spend eating out as a family of four (possibly because the children's courses/drinks were individually priced) but it was well worth it. It was the best beer battered fish and chips I've ever had. The posh peas were yummy too. Husband enjoyed his beef burger and was impressed at the size of his sticky toffee pudding (although it needed a bit more ice cream to go with it). Children both enthusiastically ate their meals (portions were generous) and loved their cookie ice cream sandwiches. The pale ale wasn't pale (!), but that was the only thing we could fault. Thanks, The Good Sport, a perfect end to our week in The Lake District. We'll be back!

Love this place and now one of our go to pubs in Grasmere. Had a lovely pint by the river, another lovely two pints by the bar and a really nice curry on the last night of our stay. Great atmosphere around the whole place and really friendly staff definitely worth a visit!

The Good Sport in Grasmere is excellent. We enjoyed a lovely pint of IPA and a meal of fish and chips. It was probably the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. The service was brilliant. Our dog, Jack, was also made welcome. Try the pub, you'll love it.

Pretty perfect eating experience. On-line booking, quality food, plenty of choice, local ingredients, friendly and helpful staff and ‘quite possibly’ one of the the tastiest IPA’s (Grasmere Brewery) I’ve had in a long time. Fabulously tasting main courses and puddings (Why cold custard?) Don’t get me wrong it’s not cheap by any stretch of the imagination with ‘gastro-pub’ pricing but value for money.

I stopped in at 10.30am to reserve a table for that evening, and they were already almost full, but the hostess moved some things around and said she could get us in at 8pm. We turned up at around 7pm and were gojng to have a drink while we waited for our table. I told them we were there early, and Tallulah shuffled things around and managed to seat us straight away. The food was amazing, especially the locally sourced lamb, and they have several unique dishes, including vegetarian options. Our server Isadora was super friendly, and couldn’t do enough to make us feel very welcome and took great care of us. Their Grasmere brewed Helles lager is also superb, and goes perfectly with the burgers. Many thanks to Tallulah and Isadora for a fantastic evening, we’ll be back! 🙏

We really enjoyed our family experience at this pub. Tables are spaced out to follow social distancing. Even dogs are allowed inside!Great food and very good customer service.
