The Hare and Hounds Restaurant in South Lakeland

The perfect roast dinner! Just on our way home back to the south after an impromptu visit to The Hare and Hounds. After a long country walk we were wanting to find something authentic and hearty before our journey home to refuel. This pub did not disappoint. Great food, great service, beautiful ambience. Would highly recommend a detour to this venue for a guaranteed excellent experience. (Hot waiter as well)

Stayed for one night in May. We were absolutely blown away by the Hare and Hounds. We booked a dog friendly room and I had to double check on arrival that's what we'd actually been given as the room was so attractively furnished and spacious! Excellent food and great atmosphere. Just be mindful the cooked breakfast (which looked really tasty) doesn't start until 9am, we had an early start so couldn’t take advantage. Highly recommended!

Lovely meal and good beer (handsome hound). Not a huge menu but enough dishes to choose from. Staff were good, efficient and polite even when we had overstayed our allotted time but this was no problem we just moved to the bar to finish our drinks (the days when a table was yours for the night seem to have gone). I had the Lamb Rump it was delicious as was veg that came with it. I would fully recommend, the only thing is like a lot of places it's a little on the expensive side but that's probably par for the course given the standard and location.

A terrific place. The food our party of 5 had was absolutely delicious. The food was plentiful and well presented. Good sized portions. The 93 year old in our party chose from the children's menu and that portion size was more than adequate. Service was good and all the staff we interacted with were pleasant, polite and really friendly. It being a dog friendly place meant that the Portuguese Water dog we had with us was able to sleep peacefully under the table. A lovely and leisurely Sunday lunch in really pleasant surroundings. An area that does require some attention is the car park which for an elderly person using a walker has too many rough stones and is a little uneven.

Really lovely pub since the refurbishment. Relaxing atmosphere and very polite, friendly staff. We went in the evening for dinner and the food was delicious, couldn't fault it though the menu was quite limited. Would definitely recommend .

What a fabulous experience. The people, service and oh my word, the food. Absolutely top drawer. All aspects were perfect. The wine list is simple but they fit so well with the food. Finally someone has thought about customers, where they are, their food and not just how to make the biggest profit. Love it!!

Just had a one night stay here and everything about the place was fantastic. A lovely room with amazing bathroom. Staff were very friendly and so helpful! The vegetarian breakfast was delicious. The setting is so peaceful and gorgeous...the foothills of the lake district.

A lovely meal at lunchtime today, the bar and dining area were both lovely and warm.All the staff we're pleasant and helpful.Food was beautiful, its well worth a visit.Just one little bit of advice, change your website to say dogs are welcome as it's saying " no dogs" .Well done all, see you again soon..with the dog

As a couple we have just returned from a two night break and what can we say but wow! The room and decor was absolutely stunning and made us feel right at home. The snug was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the delightful books to read at your leisure. A long soak in the bathtub was an absolute treat having been subject to the wind and rain whilst exploring the lakes. All the staff were extremely friendly and we already can't wait to return.

A wonderful New Year's Eve dinner! Having decided last minute to see in 2022 in the lakes, I found the Hare and Hounds which looked ideal for dinner and the reviews were amazing. I messaged them just before Christmas, hoping by the off chance they had availability through a cancellation. Andrew quickly replied to say they could accommodate five of us. In the end only three of us made it, due to Covid, but we still had a great evening with the food, hospitality, atmosphere and entertainment all being excellent.My wife incidentally left her scarf and her phone case, which Andrew has so kindly posted back to us, further demonstrating the quality of people running their beautiful business. I couldn't recommend them more, and we'll certainly visit again in the future.
