I would title our experience with Hillthwaite as "just enough" they do enough to keep up the posh hotel vibe, but not enough to charge what they do, in my opinion. We had an Occasion Room in the anex building, the bathroom was beautiful and the place was beautifully clean, but the room itself was not my style and there were no special touches. We were celebrating my husband's 40th birthday which I told them before arrival and the only thing they did was leave a generic teddy bear card in the room. No special dessert at dinner or small treat in the room.We stayed at The Daffodil on Grasmere last year for my birthday and they went over and beyond with welcoming us. The Hillthwaite just feels like they don't try hard enough. My hair got stuck in the blow dryer in my room and the receptionist just said sorry and took it. But that meant I had to go with wet hair. They did replace it later in the day but it was too late by then. The Occasion Room had a lovely view, but some rooms had awful view's and I would have been so disappointed to pay the price we did for the view of stairs or bushes. We also saved around £100 booking in Secret Escapes rather than their website. The bath and the cleanliness of the room was what the hotel had going for it, and I enjoyed that alot. The breakfast was delicious and generous....the meal the first night was good, but very expensive. The restaurant staff were friendly. I would not stay here again though, not after experiencing The Daffodil the year before and knowing what you can get for similar money.

Incredible place with even more incredible people. Had afternoon tea with a lovely view of the lake and the room we had was great. Booked a swim in the morning then had a cooked breakfast, what more could you want? Staff where so helpful, recommending walks to us and bars/restaurants nearby (thank you Ivan!!). Would rate more stars if I could.

Nice location. Excellent staff and very good food in the evenings. We stayed in one of their best rooms but found the decor a little bland, considering the cost. Appreciate that this is the Lake District and you will pay top dollar for accommodation. The pool and sauna was excellent and they had a booking system so it was completely private. The steam room is still closed due to covid.Location is great for walking down to Bowness or around Windermere town. The views are excellent, some of the best in Windermere as the place is located high up the hill. Very steep slopes and lots of steps which might not suit the elderly.A lovely stay but the price was a little on the steep side. Notably the hotel was only half full and has since sent upgrade offers for future bookings.Interestingly there was a lovely balcony but no seats or table in it to enjoy the views, which were wonderful as the sun set.

It's a great place to stay and you won't be disappointed. However, I've been visiting since 1997 and I don't think it's as good as it used to be. The evening meal used to feel special and was 5 courses! Now it's 3 courses. The menu is the same each day, it used to change. Coffee was included in your meal, now it's an additional charge. It's also getting quite expensive to stay if you'd like room upgrades.

Only our second stay here but we love the feeling of calmness that the hotel brings. Wonderful lounge area where you can relax and play card games. Incredible food with a variety of options for food.I would recommend this place to everyone.

Fabulous hotel we have been staying here for over 12 years and seen a lot of changes. Food is great and the staff are brilliant and Julian who is front of house is just great. When we go to the lakes this is where we always stay.

We had a pleasant stay. The hotel has a lovely view. The room is clean and cozy. The staff is professional. The breakfast atmosphere, food, and service are great 👍🏼. It is almost 15 minutes walk to both centres. We’ll definitely be back.

This hotel was beyond amazing!! Lovely room, comfy bed, beautiful bathroom!!!! Customer service was OUTSTANDING, they were amazing, they were so lovely and very attentive to all needs and wants. Presentation of the food was fantastic, almost like a 5 star restaurant, served quickly! Breakfast was beautiful! So many options, the bar was a great touch, cocktails were definitely worth the price unlike other places, and definitely the best cocktails I’ve ever had! They put all other types to shame! The pool was also a nice gem, 30 minutes alone in the pool with your partner or the group you went with, sauna was nice! Very pretty, and overall the hotel looked stunning, I am SHOCKED this isn’t recognised more often, when I come back in future, I will be loyal to this hotel, and will be willing to stay here again, I’m not even going to think about trying other hotels, that is how impressed I was! My partner and I we’re definitely satisfied!!
